Introduction

In 3ds Max, the editable polygon edge level (Edge Level) refers to the edge (line segment) level that you can directly edit when editing the polygon mesh. You can edit the sides of polygons by selecting, moving, rotating, scaling, and more to adjust the object's shape and appearance. Editing at the polygon edge level allows you fine-grained control at the object's edge level to adjust and deform the object's appearance. Note that editing edges may affect the object's topology and appearance, so be careful when editing, you can always undo the operation to get back to the previous state.

example

1. Edit Edge

(1) Insert vertices

Click the "Insert Vertex" button to insert a vertex anywhere on the edge

(2) remove

You can select the side that needs to be deleted, and then click the "Remove" button

Note: If you directly press the delete key to delete the edge, the face will be deleted together

(3) Division

If we want to divide an object into two parts according to the edge, we can use the "split" command

Let's select an edge first

Then click the "Loop" button to select all the edges of this circle

At this time, we click the "Split" button, and there is no change on the surface. In fact, the plane has been divided into two parts by us along this edge.

At this point we can see through the element level

We can perform operations such as moving each element individually

(4) extrusion

 We select an edge

Click "Extrusion", you can set the extrusion width and extrusion height

(5) Corner cutting

It is equivalent to cutting one side line into two side lines, and you can set the chamfering amount, the number of segments, whether to open the chamfering, etc.

(6) welding

We select the following two edges

Click "Weld" to weld the two edges together

(7) bridge

As shown in the figure below, you can see that a part is missing

We can fill this gap with the bridge command

First select the edge to connect

Then click the "Bridge" button, and you can see that the gap is filled.

(8) connection

If you want to directly connect a line between two edges, you need to use the connect command

As shown below

We want to create a connection line like this:

First frame select the following border

Then click "Connect"

We can also set the number of segments, shrinkage and offset for the join

2. Edit geometry

(1) create

Click the "Create" button to help us create a line segment between two points

(2) Collapse

The "collapse" command can help us collapse the selected edge into a point

For example, here I select the following 4 edges

Then click the "Collapse" button, the effect is as follows, you can see that the edge we selected collapses into a point

(3) Additional

The "Attach" command can attach multiple editable polys into one editable poly, but the two polygons are different elements in one polygon.

(4) Separation

Through the split command, we can separate a polygon into multiple polygons

For example, I select the following two edges

 click the detach button

At this point, two polygons are separated
