1. Introduction to Autodesk 3ds Max
3D Studio Max, often abbreviated as 3d max or 3ds MAX, is a PC-based 3D modeling, rendering and production software developed by Discreet (later merged by Autodesk). I mainly do modeling and animation.
2. Start the Chinese version of 3d Max
This article uses the latest Chinese version of Autodesk 3ds Max 2023. Generally, after downloading, it will be in pure English. Who can understand it, then change it to Chinese. The operation is the Windows key or click Start in the lower left corner, and then find 3ds Max 2023 Simplified Chinese Click, and then open 3d Max is the Chinese version. Of course, if you know other languages, you can also choose.
This article is a summary of learning the video of station B.
2. Understand the interface of 3ds Max
1. 3ds Max main interface
As shown in the figure, it is mainly divided into menu bar, main toolbar, switching function area (also called graphite tool), viewport layout, scene manager, view window, command panel, key frame slider module, status bar, coordinate system , keyframe controls, and view manipulation tools.
The icons on the top of the command panel are, from left to right, create panel, modify panel, hierarchy panel, motion panel, display panel and utilities.
In fact, generally speaking, if you don’t use so many areas, you can pull out the viewport layout and throw it away, turn off the scene manager, and throw away the key frames below when they are not animating. It’s a little cleaner, as shown in the figure.
2. Understanding and switching views
As shown in the figure, you can see that the perspective is divided into perspective (P), orthogonal (U), and 6 planes (top T, left L, front F, bottom, back, right), and of course the camera view (C) and Lighting View (Shift+4). It can be switched by clicking or shortcut keys.
Perspective projection simulates the laws of the physical world. The eye or camera is abstracted into a point. At this time, the object in the viewing cone is projected onto the object on the viewing plane to satisfy the law of near, large and far. All projection rays of the orthogonal projection are parallel , the size of the object does not change with the distance. According to my understanding, it is the difference between 3d and 2d. 2d games are orthogonal perspectives, and 3d is perspective perspectives.
The shortcut key for maximizing the view is Alt+w, which can enlarge the selected view, as shown in the figure.
The display modes generally include solid display, wireframe display (F3), solid plus wireframe display (F4), and operate according to different displays.
Then there is the quality selection. It can be seen that the high quality is really good-looking, and there are more shadows, but the standard is generally used.
There is also a style mode, which I feel is similar to a filter, and you can choose if you need it.
3. View operations
Knowing the basics of views, the next step is to manipulate views.
Maximize the display of the selected object (Z), which is to put the object in the center of the view and quickly locate the object. It should be a very common shortcut key. Can also be used with rotate view (Alt+middle mouse button). If no object is selected, the rotation view is to rotate around the center of the overall view. If we want to rotate one of the objects as the center, we can select the object and press the Z key to rotate, and the requirement can be completed.
Pan view (middle mouse button), zoom view (mouse wheel). View transformations even have functions like undo, back (Shift+Z) and forward (Shift+Y).
Cancel/display the highlight (Alt+J), selection frame (Shift+J), generally do not highlight and select the frame, which will hinder the view.
Summarize
This chapter mainly introduces 3ds Max briefly, and describes the interface, view and view operation of 3ds Max. I think I have started to get started.
