【Teacher Mu Feng】How to use 3DMAX automatic material plug-in

3DMAX automatic material plug-in tutorial

The 3DMAX Auto Material tool is used to quickly create simple materials when loading textures into 3dsax, and has some cool material features.

This plugin quickly creates a simple wood material based on a real manufacturer's texture (usually in a 2:1 ratio) and automatically UVs it according to the length of the board.

A word of caution: all UV functionality of the plugin will still be developed for simple fiberboard objects - it cannot handle complex UV unwrapping.

【Applicable version】

3dMax 2016 and later (3dMax 2018 and later recommended)

【Quick start】

1. Open the plugin. Drag the plug-in script file directly into the 3dMax viewport to open it.

2. Click the "Texture Database" button to select the directory where the texture is saved.

3. Click the drop-down list to select a subcategory.

4. Click the drop-down list to select a sticker.

5. Edit material parameters:

6. Click the button to define the material to the selected diagonal in the 3dmax scene.

You can also hold down the mouse and drag the material in the sample window to the object in the scene to directly assign the material.

Updates:

  • Added the ability to force textures of newly created materials to be displayed in the viewport.
  • Added "Select material to apply" button: Select a material to apply to the selected object. Holding down the Shift key also applies UVW-related modifiers.
  • Added "Pick Material to Select": Pick a material to select objects assigned to that picked material.
  • Added "Add Current Material to Material Editor" button.
  • Added "Scale UVs" button: click to enter a scaling value. Shift+click makes the texture smaller, Ctrl+click makes it larger. Right-click to reset the scale value.
  • Improved performance of offset, rotate and flip UV functions.
  • Improved UVs by Object: Significantly improves accuracy and automatically adds reset Xforms to objects.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the UV by Object functionality to still cause the UI to freeze when starting the process.
  • Fixed tooltip content when not using the "Lock 3dsMax UI when using UVs" setting.
  • Improved the design of button icons.
