How to use Greeble to build a metropolis in 3dMax?

In this tutorial, you'll (hopefully) learn how to utilize the popular Greeble plugin for 3dMax to support your process of creating large city models. Greeble is a mesh modifier, so you'll find it in your list of modifiers after installing it.

Let's get started now!

The first step is to create a plane object with 20 segments on the xy axis.

Tip: Note that the model we're going to build here is just a small slice of a typical urban area. You're going to need some of the more unique tiles of this type to make believable big city environments. Therefore, if you want to process larger chunks of cityscape at once, you may wish to select a higher subdivision level from the start. The higher the number of subdivisions, the more building blocks and streets each plane gets.

When preparing the mesh for the blanked street pattern, use EditMesh to select every 3rd or 4th row, just horizontal at first.

If you prefer, you can also select two adjacent rows at a time to form a wide avenue, as in the example:

The unselected areas make up the plots of our blocks.
