3DMAX sword trail trailing plug-in SwordTrails tutorial

SwordTrail sword trajectory trailing plug-in is a simple motion trajectory special effects tool.

[Applicable version]

3dmax2011-2023 (not only this range)

【installation method】

This plug-in does not need to be installed. When using it, just drag the plug-in script file to the 3dmax viewport and open it.

【Instructions】

1. Create two "point" help objects and place them at the top and bottom of the weapon object's blade respectively. Then, use the "Link" tool to link the two "point" help objects into sub-objects of the weapon object.

2. Open the SwordTrail plug-in, press the "Pick Point 1" button, and then pick a "Point" helper object in the viewport. In the same way, press the "Pick Point 2" button to pick another "Point" helper object in the viewport. .

3. Set parameters: Set the number of length segments and width segments (please experiment according to your own effects).

4. Click the "Create" button to generate animation. By dragging the time slider, you can see the tailing animation! However, the trail at this time is just a model of knife light, and there is no trailing light effect. The light effect needs to be achieved through material mapping.

Production of knife light material:

1. Prepare a texture of sword light (as shown in the picture below):

2. Open the "Material Editor", create a standard material, and assign the map in the previous step to the "Diffuse Map".

3. Enter the texture sub-level and modify the "W" parameter of "Angle" to: 180 (that is, rotate the texture 180 degrees).

4. Copy the map on the "Diffuse" channel to the "Opacity" channel. The simple knife light material is created.

5. Give the sword light material to the sword light model, and the light sword shadow effect is ready!

Parameter Description:

Length segments: The number of segments along the path of the knife trailing model.

Width segments: The number of segments in the width direction of the knife-light trailing model.

Interpolation: Smoothness control along the direction of the blade trailing path.

Delete tail: delete the last created tail model.

Tip: The length of the knife's tail depends on the speed of the knife. The faster the speed, the longer the tail. The slower the speed, the shorter the tail.
