Product manager: group face process

The usual time for group faces is one hour, and the typical time ratio is 10 minutes for opening remarks and self-introduction + 10 minutes for reading questions and independent thinking + 30 minutes for discussion + 10 minutes for summarization and oral report; a typical ratio for personnel is 6 ~10 job applicants, 1 product manager, interviewer, 1 HR, the topic is a big question, there may be many small questions in the big question.
Group face is a very technical interview session that requires specific practice. After you start looking for a job, you must participate in a mock interview or test the water with a less important offer, otherwise you will feel very uncomfortable. The following briefly introduces the process and specific precautions of the group face. The basic content is also applicable to ordinary interviews.
1. Basic preparation
1) Resume: Print more than 3 copies of your resume, keep one copy for yourself, one for the interviewer, and one for HR. If there are color parts and personal photos, color printing is recommended. A resume is like a business card, and it must leave a good impression on the interviewer.
2) Paper and pen: Bring a few sheets of A4 paper and two pens with you to demonstrate your ideas during the interview is an excellent solution. Especially when the question is large or the idea is not smooth, it can be used as a buffer and save your life in the interview.
3) Capable portable equipment: Set out to put all paper documents in a file bag. It is recommended to use a file bag that can be sealed or even waterproof. As for dress, product managers of Internet companies don’t have to wear formal attire for interviews. Also don't wear shorts or skirts that are too short, as they will not be dignified and serious. The style of clothing should be casual and business.
4) Not late, eat moderately: Internet companies usually prepare tea during the interview process, and may provide free meals if they are waiting to experience meals. In addition, before entering the interview venue, drinking water appropriately can relieve dry throat caused by tension. Try not to drink water during the interview.
2. Interaction in the waiting area
1) After arriving at the interview site, find the bathroom first so that you have no worries, and arrange your appearance in front of the mirror.
2) Check in at the sign-in office as soon as possible. If you do not sign in on the spot, you may not be able to enter the interview process or the students who are ranked lower in the order may catch up.
3) Sit down in the waiting area where you have a good view and easy to hear notifications, and chat with the people next to you, talk about your interview experience, graduate school, and speak to yourself so as not to be too nervous. If it's the same group of people sitting and waiting together, you have to chat, let the other person remember you, and let people around you feel that you are a humble and capable person.
3. Enter the venue and introduce yourself
1) Just keep a low-key smile when entering the venue , try to sit in a position that faces the interviewer, so that it is easy to interact with the interviewer through facial expressions and body language.
2) Even if the venue is very hot, do not take off your jacket, otherwise it is easy to cause details of the instrument. It is recommended to put schoolbags and satchels as props on a chair, sitting in a relatively forward position of the chair, so that you can straighten your waist and make yourself look more energetic.
3) After everyone is seated, the interviewer will give an opening remarks about the interview arrangements. Keep smiling, watch the interviewer, and listen carefully. After the opening remarks, they enter the real group stage, usually with a separate self-introduction as the opening.
4) Self-introduction: Generally, it takes less than 1 minute and needs to be prepared in advance. At this time, the self-introduction is different from the one-sided self-introduction. It is more for your competitors/team members. Therefore, in addition to mainly facing the interviewer, you should also tilt the team members appropriately. Qunmian's self-introduction has two main purposes: to highlight its own reliability and to break the ice with the team.
Reliability is mainly reflected by your major, internship, project experience and other professional experience, but you should never show off. Generally, you can add a sentence after talking about the experience: "After these experiences, I am better at requirements analysis/process design/interaction design...I hope to play my role in today's teamwork." It is a sense of teamwork and communication skills, not an exaggerated show of personal ability. As long as you make every effort to help the group face problem to be solved by the collective wisdom, the group face will be relatively easy to pass.
The ice-breaking aspect can be embodied through the expression of humor and emotion. For example, compile your name into a paragraph to let others remember you quickly. For example, give an example of a certain title that you have won because of something. The short story will make everyone smile and shorten their sense of distance from you, making it easier for you to integrate into the team.
Example: Hello everyone, my name is ××× and I come from ×× University. I had an internship in the ×× department of ×× company before and participated in the ××× project (to prove that I am a cow), so I am quite good at ×× and hope to play my role in today's teamwork. In the ×× incident, I was called ×× (shaking a burden) because of ×× (highlighting one self), but in fact I was ××× (highlighting another self). Today, I am very happy to meet you (team sense), and I hope that we can work together and learn from each other as a team (show hope, set off our sense of Leader (leader)).
5) When listening to other people's self-introduction, look at the other person with a smile, and quickly write down the other person's name and remarks on the A4 paper, and mark the name in conjunction with the seating position. In this way, the name of the other party can be spoken during the group face. This will make everyone feel that you can quickly integrate into the team, and the people you @ will also value you.
4. Group discussion and final summary report For
details, see section 5.2.2.
5. Interviewer's follow-up After
finishing the report, if the interviewer says that the group interview is over, usually the interviewer knows it well and it is a foregone conclusion. If the interviewer asks a question again, it means that you are still suspicious of going and staying. If you feel that you are stable, don't answer it. Students who do not perform well must seize this last straw and perform well.
6. Leaving the meeting place
1) Never leave the meeting place immediately after the group meeting is over, first make sure whether the next round of interview will be held.
2) Even if there is no interview, don’t leave in a hurry, first "build a WeChat group face-to-face" with the people in the group, and add friends to each other. In the future, there will be news about the progress of the interview. These people will definitely be in your product manager circle in the future. Friends, it’s good to make friends early.
3) On the way back, reflect on the interview process, write about the interview experience, and record everyone's performance, because there is often a one-sided question behind it called "evaluate the people in your group, who do you think will pass".
