Beginners Modeling Niagara Falls in 3ds Max

This time you will learn to model Niagara Falls (which looks realistic from a distance) in 3ds max in a few easy steps. So, let's get started!

step 1

First, look for reference images of Niagara in a Google search, mostly top view images.

Now, in 3ds max, draw the outline of Niagara in top view.

Convert it to Edit Mesh from the list of modifiers.

Use polygon selection to select surfaces and extrude them.

Step-2

Select the following side of the object: we use this object for the waterfall.

Hold down the "Shift" key, move the selection to duplicate it, then choose Clone To Object from the popup to make the clone a separate object.

Step-3

Convert the cloned object to Editable Poly, then select the edges as follows.

Click the Join option to get two horizontal edges.

In Vertex mode, select the bottom vertices of the cloned object as follows.

Drag them forward.

The vertices in the scene above are not distributed to scale, so let's add segments in the gaps as before.

Step-4

Now, let's increase the number of segments of the object.

To increase the segment, add "Tessellate" from the list of modifiers with the following properties.

Step-5

Add noise using the following properties.

Step-6

Likewise, clone the surface of the main object, increase segments and add noise. We use it for the surface.

or

(better way) You can draw the outline of the surface with lines like this.

Add a "Clothing Maker" modifier with the following properties.

Take full care with the density value....

Convert it to an editable poly and add noise using the following attributes.

Step-7

I use the following image for the water surface.

You will get something like this...

Step-8

Add the Unwrap UVW map modifier to the waterfall object to get the following UV map. (To learn more about unwrapping the uvw map, go to the "London Bridge" tutorial part 2)

Apply waterfall material on it in photoshop.

Apply this material to an object to get the following result.....

Step-9

Let's add the forest to the background.

We use the following masks and images for the forest.

We apply them in the material editor in the following way.

Apply this on a plane to get the result this….

presented. . . .

Step-10

Duplicate the surface water and place it on the bottom.

Step-11

Let's add fog using "BoxGizmo" with the following fog properties...

Let's add multiple gizmos with the same fog properties to achieve the following result...

Last but not least, let's add rocks (using an earth sphere with noise) and sky (using a plane)

In the end, you get a result like this...

I hope you found this tutorial useful and see you in the next tutorial.
