The HKUST Anthem is officially released!

Today, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's school song was officially unveiled, and the singing resounded throughout the campus! The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today launched its first school song in its 30-year history, marking an important milestone for HKUST. The school anthem was created jointly by the university community and the general public, with the aim of cultivating members' sense of belonging to the university and reflecting the spirit and core values ​​of HKUST.

HKUST students sing and dance at "Timeout HKUST"

The birth of the school song reflects the joint collaboration and efforts of talents inside and outside the school. Students, staff, alumni and members of the public of HKUST and HKUST (Guangzhou) submitted 45 pieces of lyrics, melody and song works to the HKUST Anthem Working Group, and finally won the award by professional musicians such as Ye Yongshi, Laureate Music Director of Hong Kong Sinfonietta The judging committee composed of members of the HKUST and the University selected the music score composed by Yuan Zhuoer, Assistant Professor of Urban Governance and Design, Department of Economics, HKUST (Guangzhou), as the melody of the school song .

In terms of lyrics , the inspiring Mandarin lyrics written by Mr. Jia Xianzhang, who is about to enter the postgraduate program of HKUST, stand out among all the works. The English and Cantonese versions of the school song lyrics were co-written by the university's lyrics team. Then hand it over to HKUST alumnus and musician Mr. Xu Xielun for song arrangement and recording.

Mr. Liao Changcheng, chairman of HKUST Advisory Committee , adopted the suggestion of Ms. Shi Xide, a member of the school council, and decided to set up a school song for the university during his tenure as the chairman of the school council . He said: "The birth of the school song not only writes an important page in the history of the university, but also shows that HKUST members are not only strong in scientific research, but also have more talents, including many talents who love art and cultural creation. The convener of the working group, Ms. Shi Xide, the members, the judging committee, and all the music production and performance personnel, thanks to their enthusiasm and dedication, this beautiful school song can be completed in a short period of time. The event also featured a work exhibition, origami experience workshops and sharing sessions by Liu Tong, a world-renowned origami artist and professor of practice in the field of computational media and art at HKUST (Guangzhou). The exhibition is held both online and offline. The exhibits include a 1:1 scale white rhino origami created by Professor Liu to commemorate the last remaining male northern white rhino in the world, and an origami work he donated to HKUST. This work was inspired by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Red Bird Sundial.
