1、The joint management meeting of HKUST and HKUST (Guangzhou) was successfully held. 2. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Tsinghua University signed a memorandum of cooperation on co-hosting the 2023 International Forum on Artificial Intelligence Cooperation and Governance. From May 1st to 4th, Qiu Yong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, and his party visited the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to deepen cooperation and exchanges between the school and institutions in Hong Kong in the fields of talent training, scientific research, humanities and art. On the morning of the 4th, Qiu Yong visited the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, had in-depth exchanges with President Ye Yuru and Vice President Guo Yike, and signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two universities on co-hosting the 2023 International Forum on Artificial Intelligence Cooperation and Governance. The forum will be hosted by institutions such as the Institute of Artificial Intelligence International Governance of Tsinghua University.

Professor Xie Zhiyao from the School of Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology won two outstanding doctoral dissertation awards in the field of electronic design automation. These two awards are the 2023 Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award of the European Association for Design and Automation, and the 2023 ACM Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award for Electronic Design Automation issued by the Association for Computing Machinery. In addition to the above two awards, Professor Xie also co-authored the paper "Rethink before Releasing Your Model: ML Model Extraction Attack in EDA" (Rethinking before releasing your model: machine learning model extraction attack in electronic design automation), and from Du Scholars from Duke University and Texas A&M University won the "Best Paper Award" at the Asian and South Pacific Design Automation Conference in 2023. 5. The team of Dr. Zhu Longqian of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology developed an automatic cooling coating. Dr. Zhu Longqian and his team have developed a coating that can automatically cool down using "passive radiation cooling" technology. Dr. Zhu Longqian said that the realization of passive radiative refrigeration technology is inseparable from the in-depth research and exploration of nature. Helmets, outdoor benches or knitwear made of this paint can enjoy the effect of automatic cooling. Compared with traditional cooling methods such as chemical refrigeration and mechanical refrigeration, this technology is more environmentally friendly and energy-saving, and it can also increase the service life of the product.
