1. Professor Xiong Hui and Professor Li Jia of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) won the ACM SIGKDD2023 Service Award and Best Paper Award (Research) respectively. The 29th SIGKDD Conference will be held in Long Beach, California, USA from August 6 to 10, 2023. This conference is the top annual conference in the field of data mining research hosted by the ACM Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery Committee. It is a CCF Class A conference. Professor Xiong Hui won the Service Award, which aims to recognize individuals or teams that have made outstanding service contributions in the field of data and data mining knowledge discovery, including professional services such as the operation of professional associations and conferences, the education of students and professionals, and the funding of R&D activities. Professor Li Jia's award-winning paper is "All in One: Multi-task Prompting for Graph Neural Networks". This is the first time that mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao have won this honor.

2. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) project won the 2023 International Architecture Award (IAA). The International Architecture Award IAA announced this time was jointly established in 2004 by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, the European Center for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies, and the Metropolitan Press of the United States. It is dedicated to selecting and commending outstanding and significant projects around the world. Significant architecture, landscape design, interior design and urban planning projects, and actively explore new developments in the field of design. As the top architectural award with broad influence in the world, the International Architecture Award reflects the global architectural development process and changes in architectural techniques, guides the latest development direction of cutting-edge design practices in the field of architecture, and is committed to recognizing architecture and urbanization from a global perspective. Excellent performance in aspects. (Click here for details)

3. The first "Together Creation·Future" forum of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) was successfully held on August 9. This forum aims to further create an academic atmosphere of integration and innovation, strengthen academic exchanges, inspire sparks of thought, and help young talents grow and develop. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) takes building a world-class research university as its mission. This forum is one of the school’s specific actions to implement this goal. By deeply focusing on subject hot spots, it creates an academic atmosphere of integration and innovation, and further opens up higher education in the Greater Bay Area. The creation of the experimental field is gaining momentum and empowering the Greater Bay Area to build a world-important talent center and innovation highland. (Click here for details)

4Professor Wang Yunda from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) attended the "2023 Power and Optoelectronic Semiconductor Device Design and Integration Application Forum" and delivered a keynote report on "Micro-Transfer Printing Technology for Optoelectronic Heterogeneous Integration". The report stated that driven by MicroLED display applications, a variety of technical routes have been developed: including laser release, fluid autonomous installation, etc. Different technical routes have their own advantages and disadvantages. Evaluation criteria include transfer speed, transfer accuracy, engineering complexity, equipment cost, etc. At the same time, the massive transfer of MicroLED has not completely broken through. Controlling transfer costs and improving yields are key to commercialization.

5、The team of Professor Yang Zhengbao of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has developed groundbreaking technology to self-assemble high-performance bio-piezoelectric films. This technology uses synergistic nano-confinement technology and in-situ polarization to create bio-piezoelectric films, allowing biomolecules to self-assemble in a large area and in the same direction. More importantly, using new technology, the team found that the β-glycine film has a piezoelectric strain coefficient as high as 11.2pmV-1, which is the highest performance among all biological piezoelectric films currently. The team's self-assembled biopiezoelectric film is able to generate bioelectricity from the mechanical stress of muscle stretching, breathing, blood flow and tiny body movements. This research project is completed in collaboration with research teams from the City University of Hong Kong and the University of Wollongong, Australia. The research results were recently published in the academic journal Nature Communications.
