Hong Kong Science and Technology Information | Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Doctor of Economics 2023 Admissions Summer Camp

In order to allow students who are interested in continuing their studies in the field of economics to interact with our teachers and students, and experience the learning, research and living environment of the HKUST campus, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Business School Doctoral Program in Economics will hold a two-day seminar this summer Enrollment summer camp, we welcome all outstanding students to apply enthusiastically.

Outstanding participants will be admitted to the PhD program for  Fall 2024 intake and nominated for the Hong Kong Doctoral Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) .

admission requirements

Admissions summer camps are open to:

  • Current undergraduate and graduate students graduating in summer 2024;

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree holders who plan to apply to PhD programs starting in 2024.

  • GPA of 3.3 or above (out of 4.0 or equivalent).

(If you are unable to visit Hong Kong in person, you can participate online.)

Travel and accommodation allowance

Each invited (non-local) participant who attends in person will receive a travel allowance of up to HKD 2,000 and free accommodation for two nights.

Activity

Summer camp activities include

  • Economics Ph.D. Program Briefing Session

  • Teacher-student exchange meeting

  • written test and interview

  • teacher-student luncheon, and

  • campus visit

Application Procedures

There is no application fee for the camp, and a complete application should include the following documents.

  1. Complete application form (see attachment)

  2. A personal statement including research interests and experience (word limit: 1000 words)

  3. CV

  4. Copies of latest transcripts for all academic qualifications

  5. One letter of recommendation (optional)

  6. A copy of Hong Kong Identity Card for local applicants or a copy of passport/ID card for non-local applicants

  7. Standardized test scores (e.g. GRE, TOEFL, IELTS) (if available)

  8. Academic conference reports or abstracts of academic journal articles (if any)

  9. Certificates of various scholarships and awards (if any)

Application Deadline and Result Notification

Application deadline is July 8, 2023 (Saturday)

The results will be announced on July 22, 2023 (Saturday), and those who pass the screening will receive an invitation letter before then.

Doctoral Scholarship

All admitted PhD students are fully funded by the Hong Kong PhD Scholarship Scheme (approximately HK$27,000 per month) or the HKUST Doctoral Entrance Program (approximately HK$18,000 per month) . In addition, students with outstanding potential and performance have the opportunity to receive other scholarships, such as the Red Bird Doctoral Scholarship and the Dean of Business Graduate Scholarship (HK$40,000) .
