Myopia is a condition in which visual images come to a focus in front of the retina of the eye, resulting in defective vision of distanct objects. Those with myopia can be referred to as "myopic" (or, less formally, "nearsighted"). Myopic has extended meanings, too. someone myopic might have trouble seeing things from a different prespective or considering the future consequences before acting. Myopic and myopia have a lesser-known relative, myope, meaning "a myopic person." All of these words ultimately derive from the Greek myōps, which comes from myein (meaning "to be closed") and ōps(meaning "eye, face").
近视是一种病态，由于视觉图像聚焦在眼睛的视网膜的前侧造成，导致观看远处的物体产生缺陷视觉（你瞅啥？瞅不清。）。患有近视的人被称为“近视的”（还有一种不太正式的同义词nearsighted（近视的））。“近视的”这个词还有引申的含义。某个“近视的”人可能不能从不同的角度看事物或者无法预料某些行为的后果（经常用于贬义）。Myopic和myopia还有一个几乎不为人所知的亲戚单词myope，意思是“患有近似的人”。所有这些单词都最终来自与希腊单词myōps，这个词由myein（“近”）和ōps（眼，脸）构成。
