MX Linux 23.1 released, Debian 12-based distribution

MX Linux 23 releases the first update 23.1 , which fixes multiple bugs and updates the kernel and applications.

MX Linux is a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on the Debian stable branch. It is the product of cooperation between antiX and the earlier MEPIS Linux community.

MX Linux uses Xfce as the default desktop environment. It is a middle-weight operating system and is designed to combine an elegant and efficient desktop with the following features: simple configuration, high stability, reliable performance, and a small footprint.

MX Linux 23, codenamed "Libretto", uses Debian 12 as the underlying layer and provides three desktop environments: Xfce 4.18, Fluxbox 1.3.7 and KDE/plasma 5.27.

23.1 is the first update of the series, with major changes

  • Underlying distro upgraded to Debian 12.2 “bookworm”
  • Installer update addresses swapfile, hibernation and OEM installation improvements
  • KDE desktop version has updated sddm init script that eliminates sddm "restart" issue on sysVinit startup
  • AHS Xfce desktop version uses 6.5 kernel, upgraded firmware and mesa library
  • Fluxbox has a new keybinding reference script for displaying default hotkeys
