Qubes OS 4.1.2 Officially Released, Fedora-Based Secure Linux Distribution

Qubes OS 4.1.2 stable version has been released, which is the latest patch version of the system. Qubes OS is a security-oriented, Fedora-based desktop  Linux  distribution. Its main concept is based on isolation security, which relies on lightweight Xen virtual machines to implement isolation domains.

It aims to combine two seemingly contradictory goals: how to make the separation between different domains as strong as possible, which is mainly achieved by more elegant structures that can make trusted code as small as possible, and how to make this separation as seamless and seamless as possible. easy.

Compared with 4.1.0, this version contains a lot of updates, the more important ones include:

  • Introduces all dom0 updates since 4.1
  • When launching the installer, a new boot option has been added: kernel-latest
  • Upgrade to Fedora 37 Template
  • Support for USB keyboards when running the installer

It's also worth noting that Qubes OS 4.0 has reached End of Life (EOL) on August 4, 2022. If you are still using the Qubes OS 4 series, it is recommended to upgrade to Qubes OS 4.1.

Since the Qubes OS project uses the Semantic Versioning standard, version numbers have the format .. (major, minor, patch). When a major or minor version reaches EOL, all its patch versions will also reach EOL. So taking the case of 4.0 as an example, when Qubes 4.0 reaches EOL (specific minor version specified, no patch number specified), Qubes 4.0.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 will all be in reach EOL at the same time, since they both belong to the same minor patch release.

According to the Qubes Support Policy, after each major or minor release of Qubes OS, the previous version is supported for an additional six months. This means that Qubes 4.0 will reach EOL 6 months after Qubes 4.1 is released.
