The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology released an analysis report on the domestic mobile phone market operation in July 2023. The details are as follows:
1. Overall situation of the domestic mobile phone market
In July 2023, mobile phone shipments in the domestic market were 18.552 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 6.8%. Among them, 5G mobile phones were 15.058 million units, a year-on-year increase of 2.6%, accounting for 81.2% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.
From January to July 2023, the total mobile phone shipments in the domestic market totaled 148 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 5.1%. Among them, 5G mobile phone shipments were 117 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 5.3%, accounting for 79.2% of mobile phone shipments during the same period.
In July 2023, 35 new models of domestic mobile phones were launched, a year-on-year increase of 59.1%, including 18 5G mobile phones, a year-on-year increase of 100.0%, accounting for 51.4% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.
From January to July 2023, a total of 238 new models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 6.7%, including 103 5G mobile phones, a year-on-year decrease of 14.9%, accounting for 43.3% of the number of new mobile phone models launched during the same period.
2. Composition of domestic and foreign brands in the domestic mobile phone market
In July 2023, domestic brand mobile phone shipments were 16.237 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 11.2%, accounting for 87.5% of mobile phone shipments in the same period; 30 new models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 66.7%, accounting for the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period 85.7%.
From January to July 2023, domestic brand mobile phone shipments totaled 121 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 9.1%, accounting for 81.9% of mobile phone shipments during the same period; a total of 219 new models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 4.3%, accounting for 81.9% of mobile phone shipments during the same period. 92.0% of the number of new models.
3. Development of domestic smartphones
In July 2023, smartphone shipments were 17.287 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 9.6%, accounting for 93.2% of mobile phone shipments in the same period. From January to July 2023, smartphone shipments were 142 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 7.3%, accounting for 95.6% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.
In July 2023, 28 new models of smartphones were launched, a year-on-year increase of 55.6%, accounting for 80.0% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period. From January to July 2023, a total of 201 new smartphone models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 8.1%, accounting for 84.5% of the number of new models launched during the same period.
