二、背景知识

1、 欧洲的下午茶文化

17世纪,茶叶随着贸易线路传入欧洲,成为风靡贵族的高档奢侈品,并由此渐渐地衍生出下午茶文化。19世纪中期,贝德夫公爵夫人安娜女士在午后百无聊赖时让女仆准备吐司和茶,以此来消除晚餐前的饥饿。这样的午后进食方式渐渐风靡贵族圈,并且成为他们交际的重要手段。

19世纪,下午茶文化慢慢由英国蔓延到了欧洲其它国家。到了19世纪晚期,下午茶不只是贵族们独有的消遣,中产阶级和一般的市民也同样可以享受下午茶。贵族的下午茶一般称为afternoon tea, 一般在下午4点进行,配有舒适奢华的桌椅,精美的茶具和可口的点心。而工人们和一般市民的下午茶则称为high tea,他们在结束一天的工作后会吃上一些点心配上浓茶。因为他们大都是坐在高椅子上进食,所以这段时间被称为high tea.

在传统的英式下午茶中,点心被盛在“三层架”中。第一层放上偏咸的三明治、饼干,第二层放上传统的司康饼(Scone),最上层放上甜口的蛋糕或者水果塔。除了可口的点心,精美的茶具也是必不可少的。贵族们的茶具一般是考究的瓷器和银具,骨瓷尤其受到贵族青睐。Clara家境优渥,所以管家送上楼的下午茶茶具是silver tea thing ,这也就不足为奇啦~

2、 The tower of church

基督教教堂(Christian Church)往往都有塔(Tower),而Tower的高度往往很高,形状以尖顶为主,直指天空,让人们一看到教堂就能够把视线延展到天空,并且增强教堂的通天感和高大感。教堂往往是一个地区里建筑的代表,比当地的其它建筑更高大和精美,而塔楼又是教堂中偏高的部分,因此登上教堂的塔楼,往往可以俯瞰到整个城镇。因此在今天的内容里,Sebastian对海蒂说,如果她能够登上church tower,她就能够 overlook everything。

教堂建筑的尖塔叫做(steeple), 一个steeple 往往包括有着这几个部分:tower (塔),belfry(钟塔),Lantern(灯塔)和spire(尖塔)。

在哥特式(Gothic)的教堂建筑中,steeple是最浓墨重彩的一部分。巨大的尖塔,大面积的彩色玻璃,遒劲有力的尖肋拱顶,让哥特式教堂具有强烈的动态美感。德国的许多教堂就都是哥特式的,其中以科隆大教堂最为盛名。看这高耸削瘦的线条,以及无限延展的向上态势,是不是觉得很宏伟呢~
