I began to start a refresh Engilish learning around one year ago. Yesterday I knew the score of IELST test. I have to share my feeling, experience with those who are on the way of self-learning. I hope that my expwerience is able to give your some suggestion to find out the best way to improve English skills effectively and efficiently.
First of all, I have to say I did not gain the expected mark in the first time test, only getting 6 piont which has a big gap between the predictable score by myself. To be honest, I felt a little frustrated cause I have spent at least 2 hours learning Engilish everyday. I have finished the whole set of IELST examination papers from 4 to 13 at least done three times. And more than 15 pens was running out of by me, the height of practice paper is double than that of the Oxford dictionary. In a word, I am quite hard studying over the half past year. Nevertheless, I failed to achieve the high score I expected, which makes me have to reconsider the method of Engilsh learning. From above statement, you already knew I have not taken a creative method to teach Engilsh myself but by practicing again and again. I have to say this may be not is the best way but the cheapest and most boring and hard.
In terms of failure of this time, I concluded that I did not form the English thinking. Specifically speaking, I am one of typical Engilsh learner who have strong ability in reading but the oral Engish is relatively poor. This piont of view has been proven by the lowest score of oral test compared with other three sections. The primary reason why my oral engilsh poor is that I did not learned grammar which made me even fail to create error-free sentences and not speak of complicated one. In addition, I failed to convert a lot of vocabularies and collocations into my own knowledge. Frankly speaking, I need more chances to speak Engilsh.This is the weakest point of almost overall Chinese people who have no good Engilsh learning environmet. What is the reason why I still use the traditional way to learning English, even though there are a lot of English learning app or online platform. That is because the app is unstable and take much time to upload or download. Moreover, many app have lots of bugs and can not record your learning progress. By contrast, online courses maybe a better choice. But you have to pay and most of online courses are expensive to me. I want to figure out the most effective way and do not cost money to improve my Engish.
After analysing the score, I deeply think I need to enhance grammar to improve the skill of sentences making and continue to accumulate vocabulary and collocation. More importantly, speak out to build the good pronunciation and language sense. To be surprised, my listening grade is also not good as I thought. I failed to concentrate on the listening due to nervousness and distracted by others as immediate reason, while the fundamental reason is that my poor comprehending ability. To improve this, I have to learn grammar and read more articles and gather more frequent use.Finally, I failed to keep continuously learning Engish everyday because of busy work and huge workload. Since today, no matter how busy work is, I have to ensure learning Engish at least two hours each day. I will change my schedule of daily life. get up early to make time to do speaking in the morning.
