Protection levels corresponding to industrial readers and writers
The IP protection level is derived from the international standard IEC 60529. It indicates the protection ability of the enclosure of electrical equipment against the intrusion of foreign objects (dust, liquid, etc.), and is a basic and important indicator of electronic equipment. The IP rating usually starts with "IP", followed by two digits, such as IP65. The following two digits have different meanings. The first digit indicates dustproof, that is, solid protection; the second digit indicates waterproof, namely Liquid protection.
The first digit after IP: solid protection level
There are 7 levels of solid protection, represented by numbers 0 to 6. The specific information is as follows:
0: No protection/no testing required
1: Prevent objects with diameters greater than 50 mm (i.e. solid objects over 50 mm cannot enter the equipment, the same below, no further comments)
2: Protects against objects larger than 12.5 mm in diameter, such as fingers
3: Protect against objects larger than 2.5 mm, such as cables
4: Prevent objects larger than 1.0 mm, such as mosquitoes and other small flying insects
5: It does not completely prevent dust from entering, but it will not interfere with the normal operation of the equipment or compromise safety due to the entry of dust.
6: No dust is allowed to enter (completely dustproof)
The second digit after IP: liquid protection level
There are 9 levels of liquid protection, represented by numbers 0 to 8. The specific information is as follows:
0: No protection, no special protection
1: Prevent the intrusion of dripping water; vertical dripping water droplets
2: Prevent the intrusion of dripping water when tilted; when the electrical equipment is tilted 15 degrees, it can still prevent the intrusion of dripping water
3: Prevent the intrusion of sprayed water; prevent rain, or water sprayed at a vertical angle less than 50 degrees.
4: Prevent the intrusion of splashing water; Prevent the intrusion of water splashing from all directions
5: Prevent the intrusion of water jets; (6.3 mm (0.25 in)) water sprayed onto the enclosure from any direction by the nozzle shall have no harmful effects
6: Protected against entry by powerful jets of water; water directed against the enclosure in a strong jet (12.5 mm (0.49 in)) from any direction will have no harmful effects.
7: Prevent short-term water intrusion; electrical equipment can be immersed in 1 meter of water for one minute without being affected by water intrusion.
8: Prevent the impact of long-term immersion or continuous water intrusion; when electrical equipment works in water for a long time or continuously under specified conditions, it will not be affected by water ingress. Note: It cannot be said to be completely waterproof, because some equipment can allow water to enter when working, but it will not have any impact.
