Project Review Status in 2023
During the centralized reception period for NSFC project applications in 2023, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (hereinafter referred to as the NSFC) received a total of 304,333 project applications , and a total of 303,329 projects were accepted after preliminary review and re-examination . According to the "Regulations of the National Natural Science Foundation of China", relevant project management measures of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and expert review opinions, approved by the Executive Meeting of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 20,321 general projects, 751 key projects, and key international (regional) cooperation projects were funded . 74 research projects, 22879 youth science fund projects, 630 outstanding youth science fund projects, 25 excellent youth science fund projects (Hong Kong and Macau), 415 national outstanding youth science fund projects, 43 innovative research group projects, regional science funds There are 3538 projects and 109 foreign scholar research fund projects (including 50 foreign outstanding young scholar research fund projects and 59 foreign senior scholar research fund projects). Other types of items received during centralized receipt are in the review or approval process.
Query whether the project has passed the review
The science fund managers and applicants of the host institution can log in to the science fund network information system ( https://grants.nsfc.gov.cn ) after August 24 to inquire about the review results of relevant application projects. The Natural Science Foundation of China will use e-mail to send the application project approval notification, non-funding notification and expert review opinions to the applicants from August 24th to 25th. Subsequently, a paper project funding result notice will be sent to the relevant supporting units, with a list of funded projects and a list of non-funded projects attached.
If an applicant who has not been funded has any objection to the decision not to grant funding, he may submit an application for review of the project not to be funded to the Natural Science Foundation of China. For relevant precautions, please refer to the attachment.
Matters needing attention in the review of non-funded projects
1. Submit an application for reexamination
1. The acceptance of re-examination applications for non-funded projects will start on August 24 and end at 16:00 on September 13.
2. Applicants for the review of non-funded projects log on to the Science Foundation Network Information System (hereinafter referred to as the information system, https://grants.nsfc.gov.cn ), and fill out the application form for non-funded project review online. If you forget your login user name and password, you can ask for it from the scientific research management department of your unit.
3. Applicants for re-examination of non-funded projects shall print a copy of the application form for re-examination, confirm that the contents of the paper and electronic re-examination application forms are consistent, and sign the paper-based application form for re-examination, and send it by courier (subject to the postmark date) Department of General and Strategic Planning.
2. Acceptance of reexamination applications
The Science Departments of the Natural Science Foundation of China are responsible for accepting re-examination applications. Please note that an application for reexamination under any of the following circumstances listed in Article 8 of the Measures will not be accepted:
(1) A non-project applicant submits an application for reexamination;
(2) The time for submitting the reexamination application exceeds the prescribed deadline;
(3) The contents or procedures of the review application are incomplete;
(4) Disagreeing with academic judgments such as review opinions of review experts.
For re-examination applications that are not accepted, the Ministry of Science will inform the re-examination applicant of the decision and reasons for the re-examination.
3. Examination of the application for reexamination
1. The scientific departments of the Natural Science Foundation of China are responsible for accepting and reviewing applications for re-examination. The review is based on the "Measures", the management measures for related types of NSFC projects, and the "Guidelines for 2023 NSFC Projects".
2. The relevant scientific departments of the Natural Science Foundation of China will notify the applicants of the results of the re-examination in writing before November 1 .
3. The scientific research management department of the supporting unit can check the submission status and processing results of the re-examination application of the re-examination applicant of the unit at any time through the information system.
The re-examination of non-funding projects accepted during the non-centralized acceptance period shall be carried out in accordance with the above procedures.
How do you know if you hit it?
After the review results are announced, there are three ways to check whether the project has passed the review according to the time division that can be queried in the past:
(1) The management personnel of the host institution can check the project approval list in the Science Fund Network Information System (https://isisn.nsfc.gov.cn).
(2) Email notification: NSFC will send you notification emails (approval funding notification, non-funding notification and expert review opinions) regardless of whether you are selected or not. After receiving the notification email, you can log in to the system with your personal account to check the project review results details.
(3) The Natural Science Foundation of China sends paper-based notifications of approval of funding projects to relevant supporting units.

Regarding the feedback results of expert review opinions:
1. For the full-text feedback of expert review opinions, the competent disciplines of the Fund Committee will successively send feedback to the project applicant's mailbox, (except yahoo, sina mailboxes reject) other mailboxes will receive the expert's specific review opinions, and the collection time depends on the progress of the subject feedback prevail;
2. In order to avoid personal failure to receive emails, if you do not receive emails, there are two ways to get them again:
Method 1: You can log in to the "personal account" of the Science Foundation network information system or contact the "administrator of the scientific research department of the unit" to inquire about the "full-text feedback query" function under "query and statistics";
Method 2: If there is no query in method 1, it means that the discipline in charge of the NSFC has not given feedback, and you can call the relevant discipline in charge of the NSFC to resend it. Remarks: It is recommended to use "Method 1" to retrieve it, which is more convenient and quicker.
