The new version of the Control Center adds a new feature for removing old kernels, this feature is automatically enabled by default in Mageia 9, and users can also manually configure it to turn it off or enable it. In addition, Mageia 9 has updated the desktop environment Plasma to 5.25, and after upgrading systemd, the startup time has also been improved.
Mageia 9 provides ISO images on the same media as Mageia 8, for 32-bit and 64-bit systems. These include 64-bit live images of the Plasma, GNOME, and Xfce desktop environments, and 32-bit live images of the Xfce desktop environment.
Other update highlights include a reduced disk footprint and the size of a minimal install (disables recommended packages), which is said to be the smallest version since Mageia 4. Also the RPM database has been migrated to modern SQLite instead of the deprecated Berkeley DB.
