After a two-week merge window period, Linus Torvalds currently released the first RC version of Linux Kernel 5.7 on Easter.
Linus said in the announcement that the Linux 5.7 kernel is not the largest nor the smallest kernel, and the distribution of patch updates in this version also looks quite regular: about 60% are driver updates, and the rest are architecture updates (mainly x86 And Arm), documentation updates (rst conversion), file system development work (pathname search cleanup and new exfat file system), and network and other miscellaneous items.
Some new features of Linux 5.7 kernel:
- Support Qualcomm Snapdragon 865
- Introduce new exFAT file system driver
- F2FS file system adds support for Zstd compression algorithm
- VMware VMWGFX graphics driver stack is ready to support OpenGL 4.x
- Ready to support RISC-V Kendryte K210 SoC
- Intel iGPU leak security mitigation measures for old Gen7 / Gen7.5 hardware
