Linux Lite 6.6 RC1 released, novice-friendly desktop Linux distribution

Linux Lite 6.6 released the first RC.

Linux Lite is a novice-friendly Linux distribution and is also considered a friendly solution for transitioning from Windows to Linux. It is based on Ubuntu LTS and features the Xfce desktop. Linux Lite is mainly designed for Windows users, and its goal is to provide a complete set of applications to help users complete their daily computer activities, including a complete office suite, media players and other necessary daily software.

The announcement reads that this is one of the largest releases since records began in 2012. Major changes include:

  • Added support for 22 languages: After a fresh install of Linux Lite 6.6, after logging in for the first time and rebooting, the menu and submenu system provides full language support.
  • Updated welcome screen: Detects if distribution is running in Live environment, and shows "Install Now" button only when running in Live mode.
  • Upgraded applications: including Chrome, LibreOffice, VLC, GIMP, Thunderbird
  • Updated icon themes and added new wallpapers
