The China open source community landscape communication meeting was successfully held!

As the basic unit of the development of the open source ecosystem, various open source communities in China have developed extremely rapidly in the past two years, making great contributions to the growth of the open source ecosystem. In order to further gather strength, OSCHINA initiated the establishment of "China Open Source Community Landscape" last year, aiming to bring together all outstanding open source communities in China, including but not limited to open source project communities, comprehensive open source communities, etc., to better promote open source Ecological common development.

On July 27th, OSCHINA joined hands with various open source communities to hold the "China Open Source Community Landscape Communication Conference", soliciting topics from open source communities, sharing experience in operating open source projects, and displaying the activity plans of various communities, seeking closer cooperation among open source communities. cooperate.

guest sharing

Guan Changlong, Operations Manager of Ecoson Open Source Community, Wang Shoubo, Director of IvorySQL Open Source Database Community Operations, and Zeng Lingka, Director of Huawei Cloud OpenTiny, shared their experience in operating open source projects in turn.

Guan Changlong, Operations Manager of the Akson Open Source Community, introduced the story of the establishment of the Akson Open Source Community because of a book, and shared the development experience of the community since its establishment in 2017. In the early days of the establishment of the community, the Aikesheng open source community formulated 4 Flags for community development: open source a high-quality product every year, organize expert technical sharing in the industry every month, push high-quality original technical articles every day, and communicate 7×24 hours Group Q&A. In the later stage of practice, the community gradually learned that most communities operate around one or a few open source projects, and don't collect as many open source projects as badges. After adjustments, the current flags of the Acson open source community have become more pragmatic and challenging: open source a variety of high-quality database products, update mainstream open source database technical articles daily, irregular online and offline community activities, 7×24 hours Technical exchange group Q&A.

The Ecoson open source community has business first, and then open source. The purpose is to empower business with open source. Therefore, the community is currently focusing on content operation, and has also explored a set of its own content operation methods. Establish an internal and external content contribution mechanism to encourage internal technical personnel to share technical notes, experience, etc., and also face the outside world, soliciting manuscripts from customers and technical experts in the ecological chain, and translating external technical articles to realize the realization of every working day The target of official account update. After the content is available, the community contributes articles in WeChat groups, technical public accounts, and Zhihu, and updates article information on technical websites such as Open Source China, CSDN, and Nuggets, effectively increasing the exposure.

Although the Acson open source community rarely organizes its own activities, the community actively participates in external activities, including open source bazaars at conferences such as GAIDC, WAIC, and GOTC; commercial technology summits such as DTCC, Gdevops, DAMS, and Qcon; Zabbix conferences, OceanBase development conferences, etc. Eco-manufacturer conferences such as the author conference; activities of mature technical media such as Open Source China's "Master's Questions and Answers", ITPUB "Open Source Small Show", DB "Big Coffee Talk"; book donation activities in cooperation with publishing houses, etc., have been active in the technology industry. field.

Wang Shoubo, Operation Director of IvorySQL Open Source Database Community, summarized the operation process and precautions of the open source community from a macro perspective.

The IvorySQL open source project is designed and developed by Henkold, an Oracle-compatible PostgreSQL, designed to provide enterprises and developers with a high-performance, scalable and secure database solution. Founded in 2005, the company is a database enterprise controlled by Inspur Group, specializing in the research and development, sales and service of database management systems. In 2021, the IvorySQL open source root community came into being. With its excellent code health and community activity, it ranked 35th among China's open source project GitHub Top 100 in the "2023 China Open Source Ecological Map" released by InfoQ Research Center, showing its strong momentum of development.

In the field of open source, Henkel adopts an open source promotion strategy of "participating in integration, gaining momentum to lead". In-depth participation in PG international community contributions, ranking first in the global contribution of the PG international community's official Blog system; involving more than 100,000 PG kernel code contributions, 120+ bug feedback, and 160+ patch submissions; entering 50+ colleges and universities, and promoting open source databases as the core Curriculum reform, focusing on the training of Chinese basic software core R&D personnel; deeply participating in the construction of international communities, 20+ national communities and user groups, maintaining close ties with communities in the United States, Russia, Japan, Indonesia and other countries, leading the development of Chinese PG communities , taking the lead in building a domestic PG ecosystem.

Regarding open source, Wang Shoubo gave some strong reasons why enterprises need to support open source: open source is an important platform for top companies to develop and maintain their market position, and rapidly promote technological change, and reduce enterprise costs and avoid reinventing the wheel; The spirit also attracts excellent technical talents, and the operation of open source projects can also tap potential excellent employees; open source collects the wisdom of developers, which can help products to be updated iteratively and improve competitiveness.

How to build an open source community? Wang Shoubo shared the check list that needs to be clear when an open source community is established: project goals, market positioning, project infrastructure, and community governance. First determine the technical focus and target users of the project, and determine the differences of the project through comparative analysis, then start to build community websites, develop new media channels, etc., lay a solid foundation for the project, and finally improve the governance principles such as community organizational structure, processes, and responsibilities. Only by making all-round planning and arrangements can we start working more efficiently.

Users are always an important factor in the development of open source communities, and they complement each other. Wang Shoubo shared several ways to convert users into contributors: by organizing more user-oriented activities, such as online and offline training courses, salon lectures, etc., to attract more people to participate; Gather more users and contributors in the open source community by means of media, etc., to share experience and grow together; by establishing a good contributor road, from participation to leadership, through self-discipline, collaboration, sharing, etc., encourage contributors to contribute to open source The growth of the community adds to the luster.

Finally, the open source community also needs to do a good job in quality, risk management and crisis public relations. Establish a complete quality management system for the open source community, supervise the quality level of each link, and effectively manage and punish low-quality results; formulate comprehensive countermeasures for risk problems in community governance and member behavior, Respond and resolve quickly and in a timely manner; remain calm and decisive in responding to community crises, avoid the spread of negative impacts, and resolve various problems as soon as possible through a reasonable public relations mechanism.

Finally, it is the sharing brought by Zeng Lingka, the head of HUAWEI CLOUD OpenTiny . Zeng Lingka often wrote some technical articles when he was doing development. Later, when he was doing open source for the OpenTiny project, he came into contact with the operation of the open source community. in the early stages of operation. Zeng Lingka wrote more than 100 articles in two years and accumulated a lot of promotional materials. During this period, he also got to know some front-end KOLs and technical leaders, and in half a year, he cooperated with more than 10 live broadcast events, and found out some operation methods through continuous learning and practice.

Through the list and comparison of similar products, the OpenTiny project has summarized three core competitiveness: the first is cross-terminal and cross-framework, which can realize a set of codes supporting Vue2 and Vue3 at the same time; the second is rich scenarios, including more than 100 components, It is used in more than 1,500 businesses within Huawei, and it is stable and reliable. The third is that it supports both traditional label-based usage and configuration-based usage, and is suitable for use on low-code platforms. In the subsequent publicity and operation, with these three core competitiveness as the focus, all the content is divided into several stages from the shallower to the deeper: Getting Started-Teaching everyone how to use the component library; Advanced Tutorial-Configuring some themes , do some in-depth secondary development, etc.; project practice - use the project to do some actual middle and back-end projects; analysis of technical architecture and implementation principles - such as why the design has no rendering, and what is the implementation principle of this component architecture. After clarifying the promotional content of each stage, post articles on WeChat public account, Open Source China, Nuggets, Zhihu, InfoQ, CSDN and other platforms, and upload and record explanations on platforms such as Video Account, Station B, Douyin, and Xiaohongshu Diversified and multi-channel dissemination of content through video and other means.

Zeng Lingka took OpenTiny to participate in many developer activities, and communicated face-to-face with developers through speeches, booths, training camps and other participation methods to understand the pain points, problems and needs of developers in using the product. And cooperate with technical communities and KOLs through mutual tweets, joining each other's communities, and joint live broadcasts to expand the exposure and influence of the project. Finally, Zeng Lingka encourages the open source community to focus on users, increase community activity, evaluate operational effects from multiple perspectives, and achieve the goal of mutual growth of users and the community.
