7000 words overview-intelligent driving system ADS-design operation domain ODD

1 Overview

This article will work with you to learn the intelligent operation design domain of the intelligent driving system. This article describes the attribute identification of ODD that can be used to define ADS. An ODD describes the specific operational domain of an ADS function in terms of road types, speed ranges, lighting conditions (day and/or night), weather conditions and other operating constraints. Even if a vehicle has multiple ADS functions, the ODD of each ADS function may be different. The testing framework proposed in this paper considers the potential scope of ODD, and how ODD affects the development of potential test cases.

2. Method

A three-stage approach was taken to define ODD:

1. Review the literature, including popular media, press releases, technical journals, and conference proceedings, to identify key concepts, enumerate potential ODD features, and examine ODD approaches in other industries.

2. Define and classify ODD so that it becomes a taxonomy that can be used by the Department of Transportation and industry when discussing ADSs.

3. Based on literature review and engineering judgment, the conceptual ADS features describing the ODD are likely to operate within it.
