Her power from the open source community

In September 1921, the Second International Congress of Communist Women decided to designate March 8 as International Women's Day to celebrate women's contributions and achievements in economic, political and social fields.

Today, looking at all walks of life, there is never a shortage of women. The world's first programmer, Ada Lovelace, is a woman. In the IT industry, women have always been a force to be reckoned with. From operations to products to development, there are such a group of outstanding women who are using their power to influence the development of technology and change the habits of users.

Weiwei is the first female contributor to the JuiceFS community. The JuiceFS CSI Driver built by herself provides great convenience for JuiceFS in the cloud-native environment. In addition to researching technology, Weiwei also actively participates in various community technical activities and is keen to exchange technology with community partners .

Next, let's learn about Weiwei in the JuiceFS community!

Q: Please introduce yourself (work or study experience), and what kind of work are you doing now?

My name is Weiwei Zhu. I am a full-stack engineer at Juicedata. I will join Juicedata in June 2021.

Q: What have you done in your most recent job? At that moment, I felt so smart

Every time I solve a bug, I feel like I'm witty and powerful hahahaha.

Q: If you had the opportunity to talk to you, who was about to choose a job n years ago, what would you tell her?

Keep your feet on the ground and don't be too ambitious.

Q: As women, what can we contribute to the open source world?

I think the open source world should not be divided into men and women. They are all programmers. Actively participating in open source projects is the biggest contribution to the open source world as a programmer.

Q: Describe your current working atmosphere, and what could be better?

Juicedata's working atmosphere is not very good. Work from home two days a week, colleagues have a harmonious atmosphere of cooperation, there is no involution, and even the boss urges you to leave work, and there are happy hours every week. Juicedata is developing rapidly, friends who are looking for opportunities recently can learn about us~

Q: At work, have you ever been treated unfairly because of your gender? How did you deal with it?

never encountered. Generally, it is easiest to encounter gender discrimination during interviews. If you encounter it, you will directly block the company. It is not worth going to. Respect is mutual. Moreover, in my work, most of the colleagues I meet treat female programmers preferentially, and it feels like they are regarded as mascots.

Q: Have you ever heard something like "Girls shouldn't/isn't suitable for this job", how did you respond?

I haven't heard of it, but I think it's a good thing that society has become more and more tolerant of women.

Q: Do you think there are barriers for women to enter the IT industry? (Have you tried doing something in the past to help lower the barriers to entry for women into IT jobs?)

The biggest threshold is women's disapproval of themselves.

About JuiceFS

JuiceFS is a high-performance POSIX file system specially optimized for cloud-native environments and released under the Apache 2.0 open source license. Using JuiceFS to store data, the data itself will be persisted in object storage (for example, Amazon S3), and the metadata corresponding to the data can be persisted in Redis, MySQL, SQLite and other database engines according to the needs of the scene.
