3GPP is worthy of its name. It is a project organization created for the third generation communication system. Its full English name is: The Third Generation Partnership Project.
The main promoter of 3GPP is the European Telecommunications Union ETSI, which created GSM technical standards. Its purpose is: Making international standards happen first in Europe. This fits well with the strong tradition of industry associations and the European belief in building a unified European Union.
At the end of 1998, 3GPP was formally signed and established in Copenhagen with the purpose of formulating a third-generation mobile communication network based on the development of the GSM core network. Based on the concept of ETSI: to promote better cooperation between regional standards organizations and industry organizations, so 3GPP is open to various national, regional and various other SDOs (standard development organizations).
After a round of global deployment and promotion of 3G and 4G, 3GPP has become one of the most influential technical organizations in the world, and the 5G standards it promotes have also been incorporated into the national strategies of many countries, becoming a strategic high ground for the game of big countries.
