NomadBSD 1.4 RC1 released, a persistent real-time system driven by USB flash memory

NomadBSD 1.4 RC1 has been released. NomadBSD is a USB flash drive persistent real-time system based on FreeBSD. Together with automatic hardware detection and settings, it is configured to be used as a desktop system out of the box, but can also be used for data recovery, teaching purposes or testing FreeBSD hardware compatibility.

Main update

  • The base system has been upgraded to FreeBSD 12.2-p2
  • Installer optimization
    • Fixed the issue of booting the installed system via UEFI
    • The appropriate graphics card driver will now be installed and set up instead of using the auto-detection feature on the installed system
  • Automatic graphics driver detection and optimization
    • ​​​​​​​ Menu removed
    • Use VESA or SCFB without a better graphics driver
    • Automatic detection will only run if the system configuration has changed since the last successful detection
  • Touchpad support optimization​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
    • ​​​​​​​If Xorg reports a problem with the touchpad, it will automatically adjust kern.evdev.rcpt_mask to use sysmouse
    • Added DSBXinput tool to easily configure touchpad and mouse
