Android Open Source Project (AOSP) code search tool released

Jeff Bailey Android and other open source project jointly issued a document to the competent representation , currently, Android Open Source Project (AOSP) code search tool has been officially released.

Android open-source project code consists of a series of Git managed code libraries. To obtain or view the code, you need to use Git (an open source version control system) and repo (one kind of complementary code with Git repository management tool), because of this, many developers are not very well be the usual tools fitted use, such as GitHub, gitweb like. 

Therefore, the official said the collaboration with Google responsible for the internal code search (Code Search) colleagues, and use Google open source source code analysis tool Kythe, which is now on developers line the Android open source code search tool, hope this tool can open code more comprehensive presentation in front of developers.

The tool is currently included features are:

  • Easily view, search the source code

  • Cross-reference between the entire code library code jump, a part of the source code can click to jump to another part

  • Switching between the open source Android branch (branches are not all cross-reference information)

  • Instructions and documents regarding the code search tool can be viewed here  https://source.android.google.cn/setup/contribute/code-search

In addition to search Android Open Source Project (AOSP) code, the code search tool also provides both source code search CameraX, Jetpack Compose and other AndroidX library.

However, it is not all code libraries can be used cross-reference to jump. In this regard, the official said that over time, this part of the function will be more perfect. And I said, I hope these can help developers better use the Android open-source code.
