Wine 5.0 rc2 release, Windows compatibility layer applications

In the code freeze and last week's  Wine 5.0-rc1  after the release, Wine 5.0 is the second release candidate now also been released, this version mainly a bug fix.

Wine (Wine Is Not an Emulator) is a compatibility layer to run Windows applications in a variety of POSIX-compliant operating system interfaces (such as Linux, macOS and BSD, etc.). It is not the same as a virtual machine or simulator to mimic the internal logic of Windows, but the Windows API calls translated into dynamic POSIX calls, eliminating the memory footprint and other performance behavior, so that you can cleanly integrate into your Windows applications desktop.

Wine 5.0 rc2 in the past week has completed 36 bug fixes, but because of code freeze, does not add any new features. Currently, the team of developers is expected to be released in January next year the second half of the stable version of Wine 5.0.

36 bug fixes include are:

  • Age of Wonders 2 demo mode Direct3D unusually slow and fails
  • "The Sims 3": Textures turned black, sometimes abnormal pattern.
  • StarFisher: When entering a new event crashes
  • Pegasus Mail 4.6x crash
  • Startopia: The menu flashes
  • Algodoo v2.1.0 crash on startup
