The recent Wine 3.0 after a lot of waiting and a year of development effort, the new package contains a lot of small changes, 6000 to be exact, and a lot of interesting features, such as Android drivers that allow users to run Windows applications as well as Android games on the device.

What's new in Wine 3.0?

One of the highlights of Wine 3.0 is the large number of Direct3D 10 and 11 changes already included in this release. These new Direct3D features include computer shaders, streaming output, structured buffers, format compatibility queries, Hull and domain shaders, depth bias, and more.

Direct3D's multithreaded command streaming feature serializes Direct3D rendering commands into a single thread, which is correct and will result in improved performance.

The Direct3D graphics database now recognizes more graphics. Support for OpenGL core contexts in Direct3D has also been improved.

There are also some welcome changes for Android developers and users. Wine can now be built as an APK and can be used as a proper Android application, full graphics and audio drivers will also be implemented.

The default Windows version in Wine 3.0 is set to Windows 7, and user interface improvements have been made for a better user experience. DirectWrite and Direct2D support has also been improved.
