NetBSD 8.1 release, UNIX operating system

NetBSD 8.1 was released. NetBSD is a free, secure, and highly portable open source UNIX operating system, which is suitable for a variety of platforms, from 64-bit AlphaServers and desktop systems to handheld and embedded systems. It is very clean in design and advanced features, which make it in the industry and academia are legendary. Users can be supported by full source code. Many applications can be easily obtained from NetBSD Packages Collection.

This version brings some security and stability bug fixes, and new features and enhancements:

  • x86: ease INTEL-SA-00233 (MDS).
  • Fixed a variety of local user kernel data leakage.
  • x86: New  rc.conf (5)  settings  smtoff to disable simultaneous multithreading.
  • Repair and improvement of some of the network drive.
  • Fixed PIE in the thread local storage (TLS).
  • Fixed performance issues tmpfs fallback in.
  • DRM / KMS improvements.
  • New Broadcom FullMAC PCI and USB wireless driver  bwfm (4)  .
  • Some  sh (1)  repair.
  • New  MFII (4)  SAS drives.
  • dhcpcd (8)  updated to 7.2.2.
  • httpd (8)  update.
