When we learn the principles of distributed databases, we must also practice them. Before doing experiments, we need to set up the relevant experimental environment to get half the result with half the effort.
In future experiments, Ubuntu 16.04 will be installed under a VMware virtual machine, and relevant experiments will be conducted under the Ubuntu system.
1. Download the Ubuntu16.04 image

2. Download the VMware 17 player virtual machine
VMware 17 player is a free version, so we download the VMware 17 player version (using Thunder to download is faster)

On this page, there are two versions, Windows and Linux. We can choose the Windows version to download. The suffix of the Windows version is .exe, and the Ubuntu version is .ubuntu.

3. Install VMware 17 player virtual machine
- Open the running program as an administrator, basically select the default, and follow the steps step by step in the picture.
If you encounter the following situation when opening it, just restart the computer.
I usually put the installed software on a separate disk.
We choose the free version, that is, for non-commercial use.
Through the above steps, you can complete the installation of VMware 17 player.
4. Install Ubuntu16.04.7 in the VMware virtual machine
For this step, please refer to: Installing a Linux Virtual Machine
Just follow the picture below to install it step by step.
Select the downloaded Ubuntu16.04 image here (file ending with .iso)
Just click Finish. The next step is to configure the Ubuntu16.04 environment.
5. Configure Ubuntu16.04
You can choose to install it in English or Chinese. I chose Chinese here.
Select Shanghai as time zone here
This step is to set the user name and password. There is really no need to set a long string of characters for the password, because it is just for related experiments and there is nothing very secret; the password set is too long, and it will be lengthy every time when executing relevant commands. password. My password here is just a letter.
Wait for about 2 minutes and the system will be installed, which is much faster than installing dual systems. I previously installed Ubuntu18 based on Win11, and I waited about 20 minutes for this step.
Just restart. In addition, exit the VM shortcut key: Ctrl+Alt.
After restarting, I entered the Ubuntu16 system correctly, but there was a problem. Even in full screen, the Ubuntu interface was very small, so I installed the Tool software.
- Open the VMware Tools directory, then copy it directly to the desktop, then right-click and select "Extract here", as shown in the following figure:
After decompression, you will get the following files. The most useful one is the installation file vmware-install.pl.
Open a terminal in the current directory and execute the command:
sudo ./vmware-install.plEnter the password (the password set during the previous installation), then press Enter all the way to wait for the installation to be successful.
After the installation is successful, the system can be displayed normally after full screen!
