Mixed Reality: Ground height is inaccurate

When the mixed reality headset is first started, the headset will obtain the surrounding environment information and initialize the ground height. But there are always situations where ground height is inaccurate. This greatly affects the VR experience. For example, there is an object on the ground in the scene. I want to use the handle to interact with it, but because the height of the ground is wrong, my handle has already touched the ground in real life, but in the scene, the handle still cannot reach the object on the ground.

When I first encountered this situation, I foolishly re-ran the installation program, reset the room, and even cleared the room data. Later I discovered that I could actually adjust the height of the floor manually. The specific steps are as follows:

1. Open the mixed reality portal and put yourself in Microsoft's VR scene.

2. Press the window key on the handle to bring up the application menu bar.

3. In the application menu bar, find Application-Space Adjustment and open this application. We just want to set the ground height within this application.

Icon for spatial adjustment application in VR scene

4. In the space adjustment scene, you can place a handle on the ground as a reference for the real ground. Then press the handle touch panel on your hand to adjust the ground height. When the upper part of the touch panel is pressed, the ground in the scene moves up. When the lower part of the touch panel is pressed, the ground in the scene moves up and down. I usually set the ground height in the scene to be a little higher than the actual ground, so that when picking up objects on the ground, the handle will not easily touch the ground.

A handle placed on the ground

The handle on the ground passes through the virtual ground

5. Exit the space adjustment scene and confirm whether the ground height is appropriate in the VR scene. If it doesn't fit, adjust it again.
