Hui Shiji, the deputy executive director of Kaiyuanshe and the founder of KCC@Guangzhou, introduced to the participants what kind of community Kaiyuanshe is. With the vision of "Based in China and contributing to the world", it aims to create a healthy and sustainable development together. The open source ecosystem promotes China’s open source community to become an active participant and contributor to the global open source system.

KCC philosophy:

  • KCC is a mobile station and mobile base for Kaiyuan people. It is a social organization for Kaiyuan people initiated by Kaiyuan Society.

  • Why do we still have to do KCC when there are many technical communities?

  • Because they did not hold high the banner of open source. In KCC, everything related to open source can be used, rather than a single technical direction or a single product!

We hope everyone:

  • Happy communication here, have fun!

  • Able to make friends and willing to get to know each other!

  • The most important thing is not the number of people, but whether the people who come want to come next time!

Linus has an obsession with equality in the true sense, and this is the development of the Git system! Amazing human collaboration tool.

It is perfectly normal for engineers to be poor and not fond of presentations. Linus is an example of this, always feeling uncomfortable.

The original plan was to answer every question, with Hui Shiji and Shi Si answering respectively. The discussion on the first question was very lively and lasted for half an hour. So it was decided on the spot not to target the number of questions answered, but to target the enthusiasm of the discussion and the audience experience. Each question was discussed to Everyone feels like it’s time to ask another question, and then another. In the end, 3 issues were discussed, and some time was set aside in each activity for the remaining issues to be discussed together.

On-site discussion problem precipitation:

The picture below shows the issues of concern collected before the event.

Question 1: How to promote open source products?

Hui Shi Ji :

  • Community-driven: Utilize the power of the open source community to maintain close contact with community members through regular gatherings, online forums, technical discussions and other activities, and encourage community members to participate in product promotion and optimization.

  • Look for business cooperation: By cooperating with major players in the industry or companies in related fields, integrate open source products into existing solutions and broaden market channels.

Pan Leiming :

  • Product differentiation: maintain a certain degree of differentiation from competing products. When you provide unique functions, people will be more willing to try and experience them.

  • Take advantage of platforms like github or gitee.

Suitable :

  • Preaching is the duty of every open source person. As a sub-subculture, it is really difficult for open source to gain recognition. So more promotion and explanation should be done.

Chen Yong :

  • It can be divided into two scenarios: altruistic idealism and building a business ecology. Both scenarios require sufficient understanding of specific fields, identifying the value of one’s own or team capabilities, continuously improving field capabilities, polishing written expressions, and leveraging publicity Marketing, using self-achievement and commercial gains to ensure the sustainability of open source promotion.

Hu Qi :

  • Find the right position. Whether it is open source products or open source projects, their essence is the last two words. Open source is one of their most important features. From a purely product perspective, "finding the right position" is an important step. Of course This is also a long-term exploration process. DragonOS, the open source operating system developed by Long Jin, a participant in the book club, is a good example. Its positioning is very precise: "oriented to the server field, compatible with Linux, safe, independent and controllable". Subsequent development, operation and even commercialization may Develop around this positioning. Whether it is an open source operating system, open source database, middleware, etc., each product will have its own positioning. Basically, it will have clear target users and unique advantages. Good open source products can continue to adapt to market changes. Of course, this is also It needs timely adjustment and optimization.

  • Community building. A good supporting community for open source products can not only host user exchanges, but also accumulate valuable experience and wealth. Nowadays, the forms of communities are becoming more and more diverse. Mailing lists, official websites, social media, and even other communities, there are always ways for users to participate conveniently, such as FAQ, experience sharing, and PR. Of course, community co-construction also requires the establishment of a complete contribution mechanism, such as setting up contribution lists and honor mechanisms. In addition, it is also necessary to hold training and exchange activities.

  • Establish (or integrate into) the ecology. Open source is not about working alone, and open source products do not exist independently. Finding partners is an important step in establishing (or integrating into) an ecosystem. You can establish cooperative relationships with open source products and open source organizations in the same industry to jointly promote open source products and expand your user base and influence.

Dark blue :

I have been working for 10 years and this is the first time I have participated in such an event. The atmosphere was great, relaxed and enjoyable.

  • Because there is no money, embrace open source; and because you want to make money, embrace open source. Because of cultural differences, foreign countries have relatively large technical obsession, personal beliefs, and spiritual sustenance for open source. In China, more people do technology largely not because they like it, but for the quality of life, which is a relatively low-level demand, and domestic open source has become a high-level "elite culture", and talents with relatively free wealth Doing open source.

  • To promote open source products, the product itself needs to show unique, unique, or very obvious characteristics of a certain industry. Therefore, the product itself cannot be a large and general conceptual product, but should have special characteristics based on certain industries.

  • At present, all walks of life are embracing a digital revolution, which is an opportunity for open source, and if it can provide characteristic services for certain industries, it will be a strong driver of development. Especially for those small and medium enterprises.

Question 2: How to attract more developers and technology enthusiasts to participate in open source construction, especially when based in cities?

Hui Shi Ji :

  • Provide opportunities for everyone to collaborate and learn through gatherings such as hackathons, book clubs, and workshops

  • Provide information about local open source projects and gathering information through social media, blogs, GitHub, etc. so that everyone can find us

  • Maintain transparency and openness in every event so that potential participants can continue to pay attention to us

Suitable :

  • It is the last word that content is king. You must form your own core at the beginning, and then slowly influence others.

Dark blue :

  • From a general point of view, everyone believes that open source is a pure dedication. This is the understanding of the concept of open source by most domestic technical personnel.

  • What should be promoted is the concept of co-creation and sharing, attracting participation through large and hot topics, precipitation through subdivided topics, and communicating, exchanging, and sharing through the characteristics of the industry in which it is located to achieve co-creation and sharing.

Long Jin :

  • Regularly hold technical seminars on open source projects, formulate topics before the meeting, share and discuss technical solutions at the meeting, form a good discussion and exchange atmosphere, and gradually attract developers to participate in the project.

Compassion :

  • The Internet enables communication and learning to be open to the whole world, and access to all information is more convenient than in the past. But people still need face-to-face communication. Maybe a certain communication and a collision of ideas will produce qualitative changes.

  • The form of offline activities can be more diverse and universal. Immersive experience activities can be designed to kill open source scripts, so that friends who don't know about open source can learn about open source by participating in the game introduction.

Hu Qi :

  • This becomes interesting if you look at it from the perspective of developers and technology enthusiasts. Let me start with a topic that is not very related. More than ten years ago, when a mobile phone manufacturer first started developing a customized system UI, it found 100 "dream sponsors" on the forum as seed users, allowing them to experience the product and propose ideas. needs, participate in product iterations; and also do a lot of marketing. The most unique thing is "fan culture". Officials provide materials such as mobile phone peripherals, own IP derivatives, etc., and private organizations organize activities spontaneously. The themes are probably new machine tasting and playing. We share machine skills and sometimes organize activities in conjunction with other companies or public welfare organizations. There are also special events every year such as "Fan Festival", "Family Banquet", and product launches. As a core participant in the city site at that time, I would actively participate in offline activities basically every month, just for fun and the intangible "sense of participation." Just like the book club discussion session talked about "how to get participants to come back to participate in the activity", I think that in addition to the attraction of the activity content itself, there may be this invisible "sense of participation", and more importantly, in every activity Each participant is a thinker and can collide with other people's ideas. After this book club, everyone’s thoughts are collected and published on Twitter, which to some extent reflects the sense of participation. I think the participants who submitted their texts will most likely be able to meet again at the next event.

Question 3: How to better integrate open source with undergraduate teaching in colleges and universities?

Dark blue :

  • The driving point of teaching is the teacher, but it is better to drive the teacher than to drive the students directly.

  • Relatively speaking, students are the ones who are most in line with the open source spirit. They love technology, learn technology, and share technology.

Tao :

  • To combine the existing teaching system with open source projects, the focus is on whether open source projects can solve the current teaching pain points, or serve as a powerful supplement to existing teaching and help students learn.

  • Open source projects should actively communicate with teachers and academic affairs to establish a benign symbiotic relationship. Open source projects provide services, while course teachers/colleges can provide resources to help open source projects develop.

Reading, books can come in various forms, the important thing is to have a reason to get together!

The dinner after the event was at a delicious and inexpensive food stall. Each person has a piece of honey-glazed pork ribs, which is very in line with the down-to-earth atmosphere of Guangzhou!

Among the four major cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Guangzhou has relatively few open source activities and the open source culture is not strong enough. However, the emergence of KCC has effectively shortened the distance between open source enthusiasts in Guangzhou and built a high-quality platform for everyone to communicate, discuss, learn and relax. This not only helps promote open source culture, but also injects new vitality into Guangzhou’s open source industry. Through Open Source Society and KCC, we hope that more people can have a deep understanding, truly understand and actively participate in open source. In the future, KCC@Guangzhou will not only pay close attention to local enterprises and universities in Guangzhou, but also establish close cooperative relationships with the technology community and Internet companies. We firmly believe that through extensive cooperation and exchanges, Guangzhou will play a more important role in the open source field and create more value and influence for the open source cause!

———— Hui Shiji, Deputy CEO of Kaiyuanshe, Head of KCC@Guangzhou

No one bypasses open source, but there needs to be a process from using and consuming open source to participating in hands-on activities. During this communication, I strongly felt our desire to promote the development of open source projects and try to influence the future, especially Young students in school, the future can be expected! KCC@Guangzhou is promising!
