To install Chinese input method on Ubuntu 18.04 system, you need to use ibus input method configuration;

Your Ubuntu needs to be connected to the Internet properly throughout the process because some installation packages need to be downloaded.

1. Install the Chinese language pack

First find and open Settings, then find and open Region & Language, select Manage Installed Languages,

2. Install ibus input method

Enter the command in Terminal:

5. Add Chinese Pinyin input method to keyboard input sources (Input sources)

Open Settings, find Region & Language and open it. Under Input Sources, click +, select Chinese, and then look for Chinese (Pinyin). If you cannot find Chinese (Pinyin), restart Once, open it and come in again to find it.
