2. Virtual machine preparation

2.1. Open VMware and select a new virtual machine

2.2. Typical installation and custom installation

  1. Typical installation:

A Typical installation is an automated installation that automatically selects the basic components and settings that will work for most users. This installation method can save the steps of manual selection and configuration, making the installation process easier and faster.

A typical installation usually includes the following components and settings:

  • Virtual Machine Software: Includes virtual machine products such as VMware Workstation or VMware Fusion.
  • Virtual machine platform: including basic functions such as virtual machine operating system, virtual hardware and virtual network.
  • Virtual machine tools: including virtual machine management, snapshot, clone, backup and other tools.
  • Supported Languages and Platforms: Depending on your choice, multiple languages and operating system platforms are supported.
  1. Custom installation:

Custom installation is a more flexible installation method that allows you to choose which components and settings to install according to your individual needs. Through custom installation, you can choose according to your own needs, only install the required components, and avoid unnecessary waste of functions.

A custom installation allows you to:

  • Select components to install: You can select only the components you need, such as virtual machine tools, virtual machine platforms, and virtual machine software, to reduce the size of the installation package.
  • Customize virtual machine settings: You can customize the configuration of the virtual machine according to your needs, such as the memory, processor, network and other settings of the virtual machine.
  • Select the supported language and platform: You can select the supported language and operating system platform according to your own needs to meet specific needs.

 2.3. Virtual machine compatibility selection

If the virtual machine created by VMware12 is copied to VM11, 10 or lower version, an incompatibility will appear. If the virtual machine created with VMware10 is opened in VMware12, there will be no compatibility issues.

Conversely, if you copy a virtual machine created in VMware 10 to VMware 12, there are usually no compatibility issues. This is because the virtual machine formats and functions of VMware 10 and VMware 12 are relatively similar, and most virtual machine files can be parsed and run correctly.

If you need to run a high-version virtual machine in a low-version VMware, you can consider the following methods:

  1. Upgrade the virtual machine software version: Upgrade the virtual machine software to the same version as the virtual machine version you are using to ensure the best compatibility and feature support.
  2. Use compatibility mode: In lower versions of VMware, you can use compatibility mode to simulate higher version virtual machine environments to provide better compatibility. You can try to enable compatibility mode in the lower version of VMware, and then try to open the virtual machine of the higher version.
  3. Backup and recovery of virtual machines: In a lower version of VMware, you can back up a higher version of a virtual machine and restore the virtual machine in a lower version. This will ensure that the virtual machine files and configuration are correctly restored in older versions.

2.4. Choose to install the operating system later

2.5, the choice of operating system

Here, select the operating system to be installed later. The correct choice will make vm tools more compatible. Here choose CentOS under linux

2.6. Virtual machine location and naming

The virtual machine name is a name, which is convenient for you to find the virtual machine you need when there are many virtual machines.

The default location of VMware is under the C drive, I changed it to the path I want to save.

2.7, processor and memory allocation

Processor allocation should be allocated according to your actual needs. If the CPU is not enough during use, it can be increased.

The number of processors can be adjusted according to your actual situation.

Memory should also be allocated according to actual needs. My host machine memory is 8G so I allocate 2G memory to the virtual machine.

2.8. Selection of network connection type

Bridge: If the bridge mode is selected, the virtual machine and the host machine are in the same level relationship on the network, which is equivalent to being connected to the same switch.

NAT: The NAT mode means that the virtual machine must first pass through the host to communicate with the outside world if it is to be connected to the Internet.

Host only: The virtual machine is directly connected to the host

Bridge and NAT mode to access the Internet process, as shown in the figure below

Press the default option of the virtual machine

Press the default option of the virtual machine

2.9. Disk capacity

Temporarily allocate 200G of disk capacity, which can be increased at any time in the future. Do not check Allocate all disks immediately, otherwise the virtual machine will directly allocate 200G to CentOS, which will reduce the remaining hard disk capacity of the host. Check the option to split the virtual disk into multiple files, so that the virtual machine can be easily copied and copied with the storage device.

Disk name, the default is fine

 2.10. Cancel unnecessary hardware

Select unwanted hardware such as sound cards, printers, etc. and remove them.

2.11. Click Finish to create the virtual machine.

3. Install CentOS

3.1. Connect CD

Click to select CD/DVD, then choose to use the ISO image file, and finally choose Browse to find the downloaded image file. Connect at startup must be checked and confirmed.

3.2, start the virtual machine

After starting the virtual machine, the following interface will appear:

  • Install CentOS 7 Install CentOS 7
  • Test this media & install CentOS 7 Test the installation file and install CentOS 7
  • Troubleshooting to fix failures

Select the first item, install CentOS 7 directly, press Enter, and enter the following interface

Select the language used during the installation process, here select English, keyboard select the American keyboard. Click Continue

set time

Select Shanghai as the time zone and check whether the time is correct. Then click Done

 Select the software to install

Select Server with Gui and click Done

Select the installation location, where disk partitioning can be performed.

Select i wil configure partitioning (I will configure the partition), then click done

Click the plus sign, select /boot, and assign 200M to the boot partition. Finally click Add

In the same way, allocate space to the other three areas and click Done

Summary information pops up, click AcceptChanges (accept changes)

Set the hostname and network card information

First of all, you need to open the network card, and then check whether you can get the IP address (I am a bridge here), and then click Done after changing the host name.

Finally select Begin Installation (start installation)

Tip: There is not enough space in the file system for the current software selection, you need to add 4700.25MiB (you can start the installation after modification)

set root password

After setting the root password, click Done

Click USER CREATION to create an administrator user

After entering the username and password, click Done

After waiting for the progress bar to complete, the system will be installed and restart the system
