This morning, my old Teradata colleague told me that Teradata held an all-China staff meeting and officially announced its withdrawal from China. Immediately afterwards, Teradata executives also thanked the old TD friends who had fought hard in the group.

For a while, the old friends of TD sighed unceasingly. We used to work in Teradata and were among the first batch of data warehouse talents. It was Teradata who taught us a lot of cognition and experience that surpassed China's data warehouse field at that time, including myself. Quite a lot.

Teradata officially entered China in 1997, and it was still under NCR at that time, so when I participated in the compilation of "China Mobile Business Analysis System Specification 1.0" at Peking University and Teradata architects in 2002, it was still called NCR. I graduated from Peking University in 2005. In the first year of joining Teadata, I also joined NCR Company. Our business card logo looks like this:

Later, in 2007, Teradata was spun off from NCR, and the company unified and changed its Logo to become Teradata. In 2007, the US headquarters went public and became known as Teradata.

Teradata China, in China for 26 years (1997 - 2023), occupied most of China's data warehouse market at its peak, and also brought the most advanced data warehouse technology and practice from the United States to China, and cultivated our generation's early familiarity with data warehouse people. I believe that even people who use Hadoop to build data warehouses will be layered into atomic layer, summary layer, and application layer. The graduate students in the Warehouse Lab have moved from theory to practice, and I am very grateful to Teradata!

Teradata is really the Whampoa Military Academy of China's data warehouses. It has trained a generation of Chinese data warehouse talents , and this group of people is different from others. Most of them are still engaged in the field of data warehouses and big data. From Ali, Toutiao Internet Companies to telecom, banking industry companies, and even various startups. This group of people is still inseparable in the data field.

Because we love data, we joined Teradata that year! Even if we leave Teradata, we still persist in the field of big data in China. We are a group of people who love data!

Indeed, in the past 23 years, Teradata has cultivated generations of Chinese data warehouses. It is the Whampoa Military Academy of Chinese data warehouses. We have served countless Chinese customers, and we have also achieved an era of Chinese data warehouses.

Today, Teradata has left China, and an era is over.

I am also pleased to see that a new era is emerging. After the MPP architecture has made Teradata, the vectorized computing that has a great influence on the data warehouse engine has appeared, resulting in the emergence of new generation computing engines such as Snowflake and ClickHouse. At the same time, Greenplum The open source version is also used by many users, and a large number of OLAP and data warehouse engines such as GaussDB, Apache HAWK, Even, PieDB, MatrixDB, HashData, Apache Doris, SelectedDB, StarRocks, etc. have appeared in China.

A new era has begun!

Although Teradata has left China, the group of people who love data in Teradata are still there. I believe that the existing Teradata employees will stand up for the last shift and let the enterprise data warehouse continue to work until the last moment. Comrades who are not in Teradata He will also help Teradata complete the final mission in his own position. I also took a look at the open source Apache SeaTunnel, which is an integration tool for data synchronization between databases. I silently added a Teradata PI (Primary Index) on top of the data source that supports Partition multi-threaded export to other databases/storages. In order to meet the needs of optimization, I also hope that all Teradata users can smoothly and effectively transition to the updated data engine, and do a good job in the migration and data integration of the new generation of data sources:

Yes, today, Teradata has left China, and the Whampoa Military Academy where we have studied and fought has left, but our group of people who have worked in Teradata and love data are still there, so

Teradata's tireless pursuit of data will last forever!
