IBM offers a free version of the WebSphere Application Server (WAS) runtime for developers who use WebSphere to test applications . This guide provides instructions for downloading and installing this WAS 8 Runtime Edition component. In this guide you will learn:

1. Prerequisites and System Information
To use MyEclipse WebSphere, you must have a MyEclipse Blue or MyEclipse Bling license.
The WAS installation overview in this document is Windows-based. If you are on a Unix/Linux system, please refer to the corresponding WebSphere documentation to guide you through the exact planning, which is very similar to the overview in the Windows tutorial. If there were comparable executables on Linux, it would be very similar except for the description of the directory paths.
Note : No WebSphere installation is available for Macintosh.
To complete the installation, you need WebSphere Application Server 8.0 to install the program for developers (via IBM's installation manager). IBM Installation Manager finds and installs all necessary software updates, which ensures that all the components you get are required.
2. Install WebSphere Application Server 8
1. Download the free WebSphere Application Server runtime files.
