5. Apply WebSphere 7.0.0.x and Java SDK updates
1. To apply these PAK files, download them and place them in the maintenance folder of the WebSphere Update Installer, as this is the default location of the Update Installer. In this case, because you have installed the Updater installer into the C:Program FilesIBMWebSphereUpdateInstaller folder, the folder where the PAK file is placed is shown below.
2. Run Update Installer from the start menu as shown below.
Important: If you installed WebSphere Application Server to the C:Program Files folder, due to modified permission controls on Windows 7 and Vista, we recommend that you right-click the Update Installer window shortcut and select Run as Administrator to ensure the update Will not fail due to permission issues.
3. After launching the Update Installer and clicking Next, you will be prompted for the installation folder for WebSphere Application Server. By default, Update Installer can find and display it, but it needs to be confirmed that it is correct.
4. Click Next to install or uninstall the maintenance pack; in this case accept the defaults to install. Click Next to enter the folder containing the maintenance pack files ( PAK files). You place them in the maintenance folder under the Update Installer installation folder , which is displayed by default.
5. After changing the folder or confirming the defaults and clicking Next, the Update Installer will display the found update packages and prompt you to confirm/select the packages to install. In this case, you have two update packages listed.
6. Click Next and the installer will verify what you are about to do and prompt you for confirmation. Next again, the update process begins.
NOTE: Considering the size of the update package being used, on a faster machine this may take 2-5 minutes; on a slower machine it may take up to 10 minutes or more to run.
7. When the update is complete, the Update Installer confirms that the process is complete.
Important: If the update process fails, you can try rerunning the Update Installer and it will attempt to restore the failed update. If recovery fails, server resources may be locked due to server processes hanging or running the server. Make sure the server is stopped, we recommend restarting your computer to ensure all open file handles are closed before attempting to resume the update process.
