Detailed process of installing Citrix XenServer virtual machine with graphic tutorial

XenServer is a proven enterprise-grade virtualization platform in cloud computing environments, providing enterprises with all the capabilities they need to create and manage virtual infrastructures. Trusted by many demanding enterprises, widely used to run the most critical applications, and adopted by the largest cloud computing environments. Xen Server supports direct installation on physical machines without the need for an underlying operating system, but has certain requirements for hardware, such as:

1. The server must support 64-bit CPU
2. The Inter-VT (Virtualization Technology) function needs to be enabled in the BISO.

1. Preparation

    Hardware preparation: Two computers, one for the XenServer installation host (ip: 192.168.0.201) and one for the XenCenter client (ip: 192.168.0.100), form a local area network;

Software preparation: Download the XenServer installation file from the citrix official website (http://www.citrix.com) (a total of 4 versions: free version, advanced version, enterprise version, platinum version), only free version download is available Use, the latest version is XenServer 6.1, ISO format file, burn it to CD, ready to use.

2. Start the installation

    1. Before installing XenServer, turn on the Inter-VT function in the host BIOS, set the BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM, and then insert the XenServer CD. The XenServer installation interface appears on the boot interface, and select F1 to enter the standard installation.

2. After selecting to press F1 key to enter the standard installation, enter the installation setting interface, in the Select keyboard layout page, select the keyboard layout to be used in the installation process, generally select US, and then select OK.

3. After selecting the keyboard, the Welcome to XenServer Setup interface will be displayed, informing the user that the local hard disk will be reformatted when installing Xenserver, and all the original data will be lost, and the user is required to confirm whether there is any important data. Select OK after confirming. Throughout the installation process, you can quickly advance to the next screen by pressing the F12 key. For general help, press F1.

4. In the citrix user agreement, read and accept the XenServer End User License Agreement (EULA). Because the kernel version of Xen is Linux, an open source system, you must choose to agree to the user license agreement.

5. If you have multiple local hard disks, please select the primary disk for installation. Select OK. The following is to enable the local cache function, which can reduce the pressure on storage. In the DDC server configuration, you must also enable it when selecting the host, mainly for the virtual desktop of Citrix.

6. Select Local media as the installation source in Select installation media.

7. When asked if you wish to install any supplemental packs, select No to continue.

8. In the Verify installation source interface, select Skip Verification, and then select OK. If you encounter problems during installation, it is recommended that you verify the installation source.

9. Set and confirm the root user password, which will be used by the XenCenter application to connect to the XenServer host.

10. Set the primary management interface that will be used to connect to XenCenter. If the computer has multiple network interface cards (NICs), select the NIC that will be used for management, and configure the IP address of the management NIC as a static IP address or use DHCP. Specify the hostname and DNS configuration manually or automatically through DHCP.

11. If configuring DNS manually, enter the IP addresses of the primary (required), secondary (optional), and tertiary (optional) DNS servers in the fields provided.

12. Select the time zone, first select the geographic area, and then select the city.

13. Specify the method used by the server to determine the local time: use NTP or enter the time manually. Select OK. If using NTP, you can specify whether the time server should be set by DHCP, or enter at least one NTP server name or IP address in the field below.

14. After the setup is complete, select Install XenServer.

15. After choosing to install, XenServer will be installed, and the server needs to be restarted during the installation process.

16. If you choose to manually set the date and time, you will be prompted to enter your local time information.

17. On the Installation Complete screen, eject the installation CD from the drive and select OK to reboot the server.

18. After the server reboots, XenServer will display xsconsole, a system configuration console. At this point, the Citrix Xenserve installation ends.

3. Install XenCenter

Installing XenCenter requires Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 (all editions), or .NET Framework version 3.5.

Hardware configuration required to install XenCenter: Minimum CPU frequency of 750 MHz, 1 GHz or faster recommended; RAM minimum 1 GB, 2 GB or higher recommended; disk space minimum 100 MB; network card 100 MB/s or faster network card; minimum screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels.

After downloading XenCenter, you can access the previously installed XenServer. You can access and download XenCenter through IE. IE accesses XenCenter that provides installation files and iso files. After downloading, insert the xenserver master installation CD into the DVD drive of the computer where you want to run XenCenter. Open the client_install folder on the CD. Or download the XenCenter installation file from Citrix's official website. Double-click XenCenter.msi to start the installation.

1. In the IE browser, enter the address of XenServer, and then click Continue to browse.

2. You can download XenCenter in the corresponding format according to your own needs.

3. Start the Citrix XenCenter installation wizard operation. The wizard allows you to modify the default destination folder and then install XenCenter.

4. Select the installation directory of Citrix XenCenter and click Browse to change the installation directory. Click on the user using Citrix XenCenter

5. On the Ready to Install Cirtix XenCenter page, click Install to start installing Citrix XenCenter.

6. Follow the installation wizard prompts to install until the installation is complete.

4. Simple configuration

1. With XenCenter, you can manage your XenServer environment and deploy, manage, and monitor virtual machines from your Windows desktop computer. Monitoring and managing activity on a server from XenCenter requires adding the server to XenCenter's Managed resources collection. When connecting to a server for the first time (via the Add New Server or Server menu on the toolbar)

2. Click the Add Server icon to open the Add New Server dialog box.

3. In the Server box, enter the IP address or DNS name of the server to be added. If you have multiple XenServer servers, you can add multiple servers with the same login credentials by entering names or IP addresses separated by semicolons in the Servers box. Type the username (eg root) and password set during XenServer installation. If Active Directory (AD) authorization is enabled in the XenServer environment, AD credentials can be entered here. Click Connect, the connection progress monitor will appear, to cancel the connection, click Cancel.

4. After the XenServer server is successfully added, you can see the information and virtual machines in the XenServer server.
