English Grammar in Use - Part1 Present and past

Unit 1 Present continuous (I am doing)

A) Am/is/are + -ing is the Present continuous.

B) I am doing something = I'm in the middle of doing it; I've started doing it and I haven't finished.

C) You can use the present continuous with today / this week / this year etc.(preiod around now).

D) We use the present continuous when we talk about changes happening around now, especially with these verds:

  get  change  become  increase  rise  fall  grow  improve  begin  start

  eg: Is your English getting better? (not Does your English get better)

Exercises:

1.1 f,e,g,a,d,h,b,c;

1.2  1) What's he doing; What's he studying; Is he enjoying.

  2) is your new job going; it's getting; he not enjoying; he beginning

1.3 I'm trying; It isn't raining; I'm not listening; She is having; I'm not eating; He is learning; They are speaking;

  I'm getting; not working; I'm looking

1.4 is increasing; is changing; is getting; is rising; is starting.

Unit2 Present simple (I do)

A) Drive(s)/work(s)/do(es) etc. is the present simple.
