Jair Bolsonaro,Far-right populist（民粹主义者） ,elected president of Brazil
Brazil on Sunday became the latest country to drift（任由某事进入某种状态） toward far-right, electing a strident（强烈的，强硬的） populist as president in the nation's most radical（根本的，意义深远的） political change since democrace was restored more than 30 years ago.
The new president，Jair Bolsonaro ，won by tapping into a deep well of resentment（n，因为被不公平对待产生的怨恨） at the status quo（现状） in Brazil-a country whiplashed（v，动荡） by rising crime and two years of political and economic turmoil（情感/国家 不安，混乱）-and by presenting himself as the alternative（n,另一种选择）.
“We have everything we need to become a great nation,”Bolsonaro sdid Sunday night in a video broadcast on his Facebook account shortly after the race was called（预测）.“Together we will change the destiny of Brazil.”
Bolsonaro,who will take the helm（掌权） of Latin America's biggest nation,is farther（更远的，比较级） to the right than any president in the region.
Reeling from the deepest recession（特指经济衰退） in the country's history,a corruption scandal that tarished（金属褪色；名誉受损） politicians across the ideological spectrum,and a record-high（历史新高的） number of homicides last year,Brazilians picked a candidate（候选人） who not only rejected the political establishment（n，候选人，当权派） but at times also seemed to reject the most basic democratic tenets（原则，信条）.
Part of the reason for his victory was the collapse（n，突然失败） of the left.Many cried foul after former President Luiz Inacio da Silva,the longtime front-runner（领跑者） in the race,was ruled ineligible（没有资格的） after he was imprisoned in April to start serving a 12-year sentence for corruption and money laundering（洗钱）.
