Windows Server 2008 R2 file server upgraded to Windows Server 2016

User units have two Windows Server 2008 R2 file server has been added to the domain. Another two domain server is Windows Server 2016 operating system. Because Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 technical support will end on 14 January 2020, so the user wants to upgrade these two Windows Server 2008 R2 file server to Windows Server 2016. This two file server has shared folders, configure folder permissions are more user requirements in upgrading to Windows Server 2016, you need to keep the original configuration of user rights.

Windows Server 2008 R2 does not support, you need to first upgrade Windows Server 2008 R2 upgrade directly to Windows Server 2016 from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 R2, and then upgrade to Windows Server 2016. 1 If a direct upgrade to 2016 will not retain user settings

The current version is Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, shown in Figure 1.

Into Windows graphical interface, running Windows Server 2016 installation program, shown in Figure 2.

2 Select the version to be installed

In the "Select the content you want to keep" dialog box, you can not select "Keep personal files and applications", shown in Figure 3.

3 can not reserve set

Because they can not retain the applications and settings, exit the installer.

2 upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2

Reload Windows Server 2012 R2 installation CD and run the installer. Select Windows Server 2012 R2, as shown in FIG.

In the "Do you want to perform which type of installation" dialog box, select "Upgrade: Installing Windows and keep the files, devices and applications", shown in Figure 5.

Then start the upgrade installation, as shown in FIG.

6 Upgrade Installation

After the upgrade is complete access to the system, as shown in FIG.

7 to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2

3 upgrade again to Windows Server 2016

Setup then load Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2016 installed, as shown in FIG.

Select "to select the content to be retained" in "retained personal files and application", as shown in FIG.

9 keep personal files and applications

Then start Windows Server 2016 and upgrade installation, the installation is completed as shown in FIG.

10 upgrade is complete

"Transit" upgrade Windows Server 2012 R2, user settings and configuration are retained.
