There is a whole life difference between those who are "self-disciplined" and those who are "showing off"

I recently heard a saying that I think makes sense: There is a whole life difference between those who are "self-disciplined" and those who are "disciplined".

Maybe you will say, I also want to be self-disciplined. Every time I set a goal, I always fail to achieve it. I am severely slapped in the face by reality, and gradually I "get used to it".

So, can such people be saved? Of course there is a solution, but the root of the problem lies in the lack of effective goal management tools.

This section will tell you about WOOP, a goal management thinking to help you better achieve your life goals.

WOOP thinking, the four letters represent:

W (Wish): clear wish;

O(Outcome result): imagine the result;

O (Obstacle): thinking disorder;

P (Plan plan): Make a plan.

It breaks down the 4 stages of achieving your goals into four steps:

The first step: clarify your wishes

Start by writing down your wishes, then carefully thinking about them and prioritizing them.

What needs to be noted is that when you have a goal, don’t talk about it everywhere, don’t just immerse yourself in fantasy, and don’t let your brain mistakenly think that you have fulfilled your wish, which will hinder your action.

This explains why we always fail to complete the Flag we set every year. Because many people always like to show their flag everywhere, which makes the brain excited in advance, thinking that "showing the flag means doing it." With this psychological suggestion, enthusiasm in action will be affected.

Therefore, after you set a goal in the future, please implement it silently for a period of time, and then share it with your circle of friends after you have achieved small results.

Step 2: Imagine the outcome

Try to imagine as much as possible what will happen if your wish comes true? The more specific and vivid the better! If you want to lose weight, then imagine how toned your body will be after losing weight, and how good you will look in clothes... If you want a promotion and a salary increase, then imagine: when you have money, you can go to high-end restaurants to enjoy delicious food. , take a trip that I have been thinking about for a long time...

The purpose of this is to give you a more vivid and concrete understanding of the results of achieving your goals, thereby strengthening your determination and desire to achieve your goals.

During the campus folk music era, Gao Xiaosong decided to set up his own record company, but he was not good at running a company. His interest was in songwriting and songwriting. It happened that at this time, his senior brother Song Ke, who was also an alumnus of Tsinghua University, returned to China after studying. His talent in business was recognized by Gao Xiaosong, and Song Ke also loved music very much, making him a very suitable business partner.

Therefore, Gao Xiaosong went to Song Ke to drink and reminisce about old times, chatting about Tsinghua campus life, life ideals, and finally the music they loved. Gao Xiaosong took the opportunity to tell Song Ke about the idea of setting up a record company, and described the beauty of that ideal. Picture scroll. Song Ke was moved, because that was also the life he wanted. People should take advantage of their youth to do something related to their ideals.

Subsequently, they established "Wheatfield Music" and successfully launched Pu Shu, Ye Bei, Xiao Ke and others, contributing to the prosperity of the Chinese music scene.

This is the power of vision. No matter how bumpy the road to realizing your dream is, as long as you think of the ideal and beautiful picture in your heart, you will immediately be filled with a steady stream of motivation, enough to overcome all difficulties.

Step 3: Think about the obstacles

Figure out what the real obstacles you may encounter are. That is, if you have a goal, think more about the difficulties you may encounter in achieving it, and abandon all unrealistic illusions.

In other words, while you are excited about your goals, think more about the difficulties, both good and bad.

I have met many early-stage entrepreneurial teams. Usually three or four people discuss business models, teams, and financing. They talk for 5 or 6 hours, but no concrete measures are taken except for talking about it. After a few months, even the original idea is gone. changed. Later, when I met such a team, I would make two requirements:

1. What should we do if we imagine the worst case scenario? For example, if you can't raise money or you can't find a perfect team, everyone will be pragmatic now.

2. In each meeting, at least one thing should be implemented, such as a business plan, contacting several candidates, etc.

Don’t fall into early blind optimism, but calmly analyze what difficulties you are about to face?

During this step, you may find that the obstacles are greater than expected and you cannot overcome them. At this time, you can consider giving up this wish, choose other wishes, and practice WOOP thinking again.

Step 4: Make a plan

If you think these obstacles can be overcome, then you should formulate corresponding "implementation intentions" for the obstacles that come to mind and repeat them to yourself. For example, if you want to keep running but feel tired after get off work every day, you can say: If I feel tired when I get home, I will listen to music for ten minutes and relax before going for a run.

Fully consider what countermeasures to take under various circumstances, and use the "if...I will..." thinking mode.

Although the obstacles sometimes encountered are great, prepared countermeasures can effectively solve the problems. We are not afraid of difficulties, we are just afraid of sudden challenges that will break our original plans, so we are prepared for everything in advance as much as possible.

Phelps, the world-famous swimmer, had a leak in his swimming goggles during a swimming competition, but it did not affect his performance at all. Instead, he trained slightly better than usual and finally won the gold medal.

Maybe you will say that this is because of his good mental quality, and the situation in the game does not affect his mentality. What is the reality? Phelps' coach said in an interview that this situation has been rehearsed countless times in daily training and will not affect normal performance at all.

It turns out that during daily training, Phelps and his coach repeatedly rehearsed "If...I will...". They had assumed in advance all the situations that might be encountered in the game and how to do it. Response, such as: broken swimming goggles, sudden power outage, damaged swimsuit, interference from opponents, etc. In subsequent games, he will be able to deal with various emergencies calmly.

When practicing WOOP thinking, you need to pay attention to the following points:

1. If you just start practicing WOOP thinking, it is recommended to choose a short-term wish within one day first, such as jogging for half an hour today. This way you can more easily see the effect of WOOP thinking and build confidence better.

2. Although you can practice WOOP thinking at any time, for novices, it is most recommended to do it in the morning, because doing WOOP thinking in the morning will make you prepare for the day's life in advance. When going to bed at night, we can recall how the WOOP thinking in the morning affected the day's work.

3. Regarding wishes and obstacles, we cannot stay on the surface. We must dig deep into our hearts to find the most desired wishes and the most critical obstacles. Only in this way can the effect of WOOP thinking be maximized.

4. Make timely adjustments to your wishes. As time goes by, various situations may change, so we must continue to adjust and find the desires that suit us at the moment.

5. WOOP thinking practice is very simple and flexible. As long as you can find a quiet place, the key is to calm down and concentrate. You can practice WOOP thinking at home, at work, or anywhere else. The more you practice, the closer the connection will be between dreams and obstacles, situations and actions, and the stronger your ability to take action will be.

6. Depending on each person’s proficiency, a WOOP thinking exercise may take a few minutes or more than ten minutes.

This is the WOOP thinking that helps you realize your dreams.
