Installation of Win2016 server.
1. Server Windows version selection
- Windows server 2016 Standard (Standard Edition)
supports one Hype-V host (2 virtual machines) per license - Windows server 2016 Datacenter (Datacenter Edition)
supports one Hype-V host per license (the number of virtual machines is unlimited)
2. Hardware requirements
- The minimum hardware configuration requirements for installing Windows Server 2016 system
1) The minimum processor configuration requires a 1.4GHz 64-bit processor
2) The minimum RAM is 512MB, and the minimum RAM with desktop experience requires 2G
3) The minimum disk partition is 32GB
3. Installation steps
Basic installation process
- Prepare server and discs

Step 1: Create a new Win2016 virtual machine

Double-click the "VMware Workstation Pro" icon on the desktop to open the VMware virtual machine program.

Create a new virtual machine.
Click Create New Virtual Machine to open the New Virtual Machine Wizard, select Classic (recommended), and click Next.
On the Install Guest OS page, click Install OS Later.
On the Install Guest Operating System interface, select Windows Server 2016 from the version drop-down menu.
On the "Name the virtual machine" interface, select "Non-C drive" as the location, and press "Default" for the virtual machine name.
On the "Specify Disk Capacity" interface, set the disk size to "500GB", and select "Store the virtual disk as a single file".
On the Ready to Create Virtual Machine interface, click Finish.
Finally, the Win2016 virtual machine is newly created.

Adjust virtual machine settings
Click "Virtual Machine" -> "Settings" in the menu bar in turn, and on the "Virtual Machine Settings" interface, modify and confirm the memory 2GB, hard disk 500GB, network adapter NAT.
Step 2: Install Win2016
- On the "Virtual Machine Settings" interface, click "CD/DVD", select "Use ISO Image File" on the right, and browse to find the Win2016 CD ISO file.
- Start the Win2016 virtual machine, quickly click the mouse to enter the virtual machine, and quickly press the "Enter"

The Windows Server 2016 installation wizard appears. On the "Language and Other Preferences" interface, press the default settings and click "Next".
On the Install Now interface, click Install Now.
On the Select the operating system to install interface, select Windows Server 2016 Datacenter (Desktop Experience), and click Next.
On the "Applicable Notices and License Terms" interface, check "I accept the license terms".
On the "What type of installation do you want to perform" interface, click "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)".
On the "Where do you want to install Windows?" interface, click "Next" to install.
In the "Installing Windows" interface, it will take about 10 minutes.
On the Enter Administrator Password interface, enter the password twice, and click Finish.
- Press "Ctrl+Alt+Insert" to unlock the login window, and enter the password you just set.
After the password verification is passed, the Win2016 interface is entered, indicating that the installation is successful.
4. Check the device driver status and install the driver
- Open the "Device Manager" to check whether each device driver is normal.
Right-click the "Start" menu -> "Device Manager".
If there is a mark "exclamation mark" or "question mark", it means that there is a problem with the hardware driver
- Download the device driver
According to the brand and model of the server, go to its official website to download the device driver

Step 1: Check Win2016 "device driver status"
- Right-click the "Start" menu, click the "Computer Management" interface.
- In the "Computer Management" window, click "Device Manager" –> "Display Adapter", and find that it is "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter", indicating that the graphics card
driver is not installed.
Step 2: Install the driver"
- Click the VMware menu "Virtual Machine" –> "Install VMware Tools".
- Open Win2016 "File Explorer" –> "This Computer" and double-click "DVD drive (D:) VMware Tools".
- When the "Welcome to the VMware Tools Installation Wizard" interface appears, click "Next" to install according to the default all the way.
- When the "VMware Tools installation wizard has completed" interface appears, click Finish and restart the computer.
Step 3: Confirm that the driver installation is successful"
- In the "Computer Management" window, click "Device Manager" –> "Display Adapter" and find that it is "VMware SVGA 3D", indicating that the graphics card driver is installed successfully.
Step 4: Create a shutdown snapshot"
- Shut down Windows Server 2016 normally, click the "Virtual Machine - Snapshot - Take Snapshot" menu in sequence, and record the password and related information.
