Vim text editor author Bram Moolenaar has died at the age of 62.

Bram Moolenaar's family revealed in a Google Groups forum, "It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Bram Moolenaar passed away on August 3, 2023. Bram's condition has rapidly deteriorated over the past few weeks."

"Bram has dedicated most of his life to VIM and he is very proud of the VIM family."

Bram Moolenaar's family said, "As a family we are arranging for Bram's funeral, which will be held in the Netherlands and in Dutch."

Bram Moolenaar has been involved in the open source community for over 30 years.

According to reports, Vim is currently one of the most popular text editors, especially widely used among programmers, and is tied with Emacs to become the favorite editor for Unix-like system users.

An industry insider pointed out that although Bram Moolenaar passed away, the Vim and NeoVim projects he left behind will last forever.
