Recently, the OpenCloudOS open source community signed the Alibaba Open Source CLA (Contribution License Agreement, Contribution License Agreement), formally joined hands with the Alibaba Cloud PolarDB open source database community, and launched compatibility adaptation between OpenCloudOS (V8) and the Alibaba Cloud open source cloud native database PolarDB distributed version and the open source cloud native database PolarDB PostgreSQL version.
After rigorous testing, the products of both parties are fully compatible, the overall operation is stable, and they perform well in terms of function, performance and compatibility.
About PolarDB Open Source
PolarDB is a family of cloud-native database products developed by Alibaba Cloud. It adopts the separation of storage and computing, and the integrated design of software and hardware. It not only has the low-cost advantage of distributed design, but also has the ease of use of centralized, which can meet the needs of large-scale application scenarios.
In 2021, Alibaba Cloud will take database open source as an important strategic direction, and officially open source its self-developed core database product PolarDB, helping developers and customers quickly use Alibaba Cloud database product technology through the open source version, and participate in the iterative process of technology products.
The open source cloud-native database PolarDB distributed version (PolarDB for Xscale, referred to as "PolarDB-X") is a high-performance cloud-native distributed database product independently developed by Alibaba Cloud. The open source cloud-native database PolarDB PostgreSQL version (PolarDB for PostgreSQL, referred to as "PolarDB-PG") is a cloud-native relational database product independently developed by Alibaba Cloud. It is 100% compatible with PostgreSQL; it adopts a storage-computing separation architecture based on Shared-Storage, and has extreme elasticity, millisecond-level latency, HTAP capabilities, and enterprise-level database features such as high reliability, high availability, and elastic expansion. At the same time, PolarDB has large-scale parallel computing capabilities and can handle mixed loads of OLTP and OLAP.
About OpenCloudOS Open Source
The OpenCloudOS operating system open source community is an operating system community project jointly initiated by operating system, software and hardware manufacturers, and individuals to provide users with a next-generation cloud-native operating system that is self-controllable, green, energy-saving, safe, reliable, and high-performance. OpenCloudOS 8.6 is a new version released by the OpenCloudOS community. Its basic library and user-mode components are fully compatible with CentOS 8. Through optimization and enhancement at the kernel level, it has been verified by 10 million+ nodes on a large scale, with a 70% increase in stability and a 50% increase in performance in specific scenarios. It can provide users with a better solution than CentOS 8.
After the compatibility adaptation is completed, through exchanges, cooperation and resource sharing between the two parties, we can jointly create an ecology in the database field, better integrate the open source ecology of the two parties, and improve the business efficiency and experience of users.
