VMware installs Ubuntu (2023 of course depends on the hot tutorial)

1. Download the Ubuntu image (iso file)

Note: The official download may be very slow, so I suggest you choose the second or third path to download, and choose the version you need (I downloaded Ubuntu 22.04 myself). When downloading, you need to select the path where the image file is stored, and this path will be used later in the installation.

2. Install the virtual machine

  • Open VMware and click [Create a new virtual machine]. Or as shown in the second picture, click [File] in the upper left corner, and then click [New Virtual Machine] (the shortcut key is Ctrl + N):

insert image description here

  • As shown in the figure below, I recommend choosing 2 for both "Number of Processors" and "Number of Cores per Processor", which should be enough for the follow-up, and finally click [Next]:

insert image description here

  • "Memory of this virtual machine" can select the default 4096MB, and then click [Next]:

insert image description here

  • Check [Use Network Address Translation (NAT)], and then click [Next]:

insert image description here

  • Select the default [LSI Logic (recommended)], and then click [Next]:

insert image description here

  • Select the default [SCSI (recommended)], and then click [Next]:

insert image description here

  • Check [Create a new virtual disk], and then click [Next]:

insert image description here

  • "Maximum disk size" can be selected 20(you can increase it yourself if the demand is large, but 20 is still enough, don't worry); then check [Split the virtual disk into multiple files]; finally click [Next]:

insert image description here

  • By default, click [Next]:

insert image description here

  • Click [Custom Hardware]:

insert image description here

  • First click [New CD/DVD Automatic Detection], then check [Use ISO Image File], then click [Browse] to select the image file you downloaded in the first step, and finally click [Close]:

insert image description here

  • After completing the above steps, click [Finish]:

insert image description here

3. Install Ubuntu

  • Click [Start this virtual machine]:

  • Press Enter directly, and then we have to wait for a while:

  • After a while, the following interface will appear. For the language, I strongly recommend that you choose [English], because it will be very convenient to use Linux commands later; then click [Install Ubuntu]:

insert image description here

  • Click [Continue]:

insert image description here

  • As shown in the figure below, follow the steps to select:

insert image description here

  • Check [Erase disk and install Ubuntu], and then click [Install Now]:

insert image description here

  • Click [Continue]:

insert image description here

  • Select [shanghai] for the time zone, and then click [Continue]:

insert image description here

  • Set the user name and password, the specific steps are as follows: ([Your computer's name] is the name of your computer, if you don't change it, the system will automatically generate a name according to your user name; it's not a big problem if you don't change it)

insert image description here

  • Next is the long installation time, during which the system will be installed by itself, you can scan Douyin, and of course you can run a few speed cars. But don't click randomly on this interface, be careful to [Skip]:

insert image description here

  • After the installation is complete, click [Restart Now]:

insert image description here

  • Next, you will see the following interface, we click with the mouse, and then press Enter:

  • Click【Next】:

insert image description here

  • Click【Next】:

insert image description here

  • Click【Next】:

insert image description here

  • Click 【Done】:

insert image description here

  • Finally back to the following interface, which means we can start our Linux journey!
