In the early morning of March 29, Tencent’s WeChat and QQ businesses experienced a crash, including WeChat voice chat, circle of friends, WeChat payment, and QQ file transfer, QQ space, and QQ mailbox. Multiple functions were unavailable.

Although the fault was fixed later in the day, Tencent still issued a severe penalty for the accident.

According to an exclusive report by Jiemian News , the accident was caused by a failure in the cooling system of Guangzhou Telecom's computer room, and Tencent defined it as a company-level accident.

Tencent's management believes that this accident exposed the hidden dangers of imperfect disaster recovery design and emergency plan, and the risk prevention awareness of relevant business departments is not in place, so a large number of relevant leaders have been punished. Among them, managers including Lu Shan (LS), the company's senior executive vice president and president of TEG (Technical Engineering Business Group), and Zhou Hao (harveyzhou), vice president of WXG (WeChat Business Group), assumed leadership responsibilities and were notified and criticized.
