Commentary: I remember a work experience where I was almost turned into a dog by Steve Jobs.

One day, Steve Jobs showed up in my cubicle with a buddy I didn't know. He didn't introduce another person, he asked me, "What do you think about that company called Knoware"?
I told him that the company's products were mediocre, boring, overly simplistic, that they didn't fit our Macintosh, and that the company wasn't for us. I finished my answer and he said to me "Come and meet Knoware CEO, Archie McGill".
I thank you, Steve.
Okay, I passed Steve Jobs' IQ test. If I say good things about that crappy software, he'll conclude: I'm incompetent. That would be the end of my career at Apple.
Working with Jobs was not easy or pleasant. He strives for excellence, and you're either the best or the fuck off. The experience of working with him is invaluable.
This incident taught me one thing "you have to output the truth and don't worry about the consequences":
- Telling the truth is a test of your character and intelligence. You need the courage to tell the truth and the corresponding wisdom to discover the truth.
- People crave the truth and tell someone their product is good just to show your approval or affirmation, but it doesn't help the quality.
- There is only one truth, if you stay honest it's all easy; if you're not honest, you lie about everything you say.
